I actually have relatively good faith in the team to make a decent adaptation of TE, and the quote assures me a little. I don't want the mysteries plainly answered, either - particularly not what's in the sugarbowl, or whether The Great Unknown is the Bombinating Beast. The whole point of TGU is that it's unknown. But I think they're doing a good job of the adaptations so far, and I can't imagine they just haven't thought ahead about how to finish the series. Besides, we don't know for a fact that TE will be shorter in runtime than the other books - the way I read it, they just might have decided there wasn't an appropriate place to split the story into two 'acts', which seems reasonable to me exactly because the last book is so much more reflective and slow-paced than the rest. There's less material, but they might still spend almost the same amount of time on it. I'm not worried about them adding more to it, either - they've been adding plotlines to the story during the whole series, so it seems natural that they'd add something to the finale in order to do the Snicket equivalent of wrapping up on those. Also worrisome to me is the fact that he said 'a lot of questions I think even readers had' -- because yes, of course we have them. That's the point. We're not supposed to know everything. The Baudelaires don't know everything. The open-ended nature of TE is perfect because it gives a sense of a wider world, of the continuing lives of the Baudelaires, the continuing world of V.F.D. People don't get all the answers to their questions, and The End perfectly represented that. So it seems a strange thing to say 'even' readers of ASOUE still had questions. The "I think" is what reassures me on this part - the fact that he thinks so, but doesn't know it for sure, suggests to me that the answers they'll give are actually in the book, just not obvious on a first read. It might just be some of the stuff that we nerds picked up from subtext and web forums, such as the connection between Miranda Caliban and Olivia. And in the end, the main reason that I'm not too worried: The confirmation that the plot will end up the same place in the end. There's no happy ending, not here and not now. Yes, I do have faith in them considering how well they've done so far. I just can't help but be somewhat concerned by this quote. I hadn't thought of looking at it like that: I hope you're right. It's true that they have picked up on and highlighted things like Olivia Caliban's name so perhaps he is talking just about some of the smaller details. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see! You are absolutely right, though: if it comes to the same conclusion as the book, they surely can't be going too far astray.

I think we just need to keep in mind the non-book readers or the story of the Netflix series alone. Also important, it was mentioned Sonnenfeld will direct TPP. He also directed TBB, TWW, TAA, and TVV. I’m just hoping there aren’t jokes of serious scenes like the house falling off or Genghis’ escape. (Or added the plane lighthouse thing)

I would agree, though, that I have always been of the opinion that any canonical confirmation of the true nature of the Great Unknown would be firm proof that the creators had entirely lost touch with the source material, and I extend that to Daniel Handler as well. Well, one could argue that Handler has already lost touch with the source material in ATWQ, by strongly suggesting that the GU is the BB (something confirmed by his out-of-story statement that the series explores 'the other side of that question-mark'). Though if so, the point of the GU is not lost; there is still a large and mysterious world that we do not understand. It is just the symbol that is lost. Even if we solve the Great Unknown, we still have the great unknown. Hmmm - I've not seen this yet, but I can see a way in which the night at the opera might be linked with things we have heard about the sugar bowl from elsewhere. I think the revelations we are getting do fit in which stuff that has already been suggested; the thought that the sugar bowl contains sugar coheres with WWBU: and there is a possible link with antidotes, which may be implied by some things in The End.

Usman Ally posted this behind the scenes image today, given the costume and description I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the season 2 thread. https://www.instagram.com/p/BgO7yT1HGvp Perhaps this is Fernald at the Hotel Denouement ? Given the filming, and the fact that he doesn't appear to have his scars, it might also be from a flash-back scene that is shown during the Grim Grotto episodes.

Mic released a new interview with Cynthia Summers (the show's costume designer) wherein she gives a few tiny titbits about season 3: "Summers said Esmé’s looks go even further off the rails in season three — a release date for which has yet to be announced — but declined to share any more details than that. “Just wait,” she said. “She really peaks in season three. It was a big challenge, because it was like, ‘How am I going to make that fashionable?’ And I can’t really speak about that yet, but it really worked out. I love her.” mic.com/articles/188800/how-the-most-iconic-looks-from-season-2-of-netflixs-a-series-of-unfortunate-events-came-to-life

Judging from this, it sounds like they might be starting to film the trial scenes.

One of the show's camera operators posted some pictures of the crew's tribute to the Humboldt Broncos after their bus crash. https://www.instagram.com/p/BhfdN_BH7xd The reason I'm posting it here is that the photos also feature what looks like the Hotel Denouement's reflecting pond.
