It was a great detective job! And gothicarchiesfan's response was so convincing that even I needed to check out a few things. I was wondering if I had sent him any wrong information.

I will be away for much of next week, so unfortunately I will not be in this time - but I'll look forward to reading the playthrough once I'm back.

Good to see you again! Especially since the existence of that game is your responsibility. You were the one who introduced me to the original version. If you read what happened in that last round ... It was really intense !!

I immediately recognised Dante as Dewey: I wasn't so sure about the others (remember, no books - a situation which it now seems is likely to continue till Christmas), but I suspected that Sherry Annwas someone from Prufrock Prep.
As I said, I found it very hard to think of questions that would get useful answers without giving too much away. I did think of asking 'What can you smell here?', but decided that would be too much of a giveaway, as not many places in the series have a distinctive smell. I must say that the Cafe Salmonella never occurred to me - it's true that many of the clues, smell, staff with uniforms, etc., would relate equally to the Indian restaurant and to there.

So I believe that I interpreted you well, Hermes, because I asked exactly the same question that you thought to ask.

Also in! It was a lot of fun. Although gothicarchiesfan was a close second in my list of suspects, I accused Dante for two reasons: 1) His first answer, "I'm simply checking that everything is running smoothly," sounded like he had conveniently decided to play the role of an accommodating staff member (based on FileneNGottlin's answer). In fact, he had been assigned the role of an accommodating staff member - a misleading coincidence. Nonetheless, the fact that this answer established a management structure did not convince me of his innocence; all locations in ASOUE with staff that I could think of had some sort of management, and if they didn't, it would be reasonable to imagine that some existed off-screen. 2) Dante's second answer noted that staff members wore thematically appropriate uniforms. At this point in the game, I thought it would be clear to the spy that we were in a restaurant. Again, thematic uniforms are present in almost every restaurant in ASOUE I can think of - Cafe Salmonella, the Anxious Clown, Veritable French Diner(?). The phrase "thematically appropriate" is also vague enough that it could apply not to the theme of the restaurant, but to the theme of the novel in which it took place. I thought Dante was banking on being given the benefit of the doubt. (Of course, to say something more specific at this point might have tipped the spy off.) What tipped the balance in favor of gothicarchiesfan - leading me to accuse Dante - was the former's reference to horseradish. Apparently it's used in Indian salads. I thought gothicarchiesfan had some niche knowledge of Indian cuisine and was trying to signal he was in the know. Of course, there were many more obvious staples to Indian cuisine that he could have referenced and wouldn't have been obvious to the spy, so when he was accused I agreed to agree.

Very cool! That is why accusation arguments are not allowed. They end up decreasing the spy's chances too much. Of course, no one is forced to defend himself. Defense arguments can sometimes lead the real spy to deduce where he is, so omitting the defense can be a good strategy. Just as, in trying to defend himself, the spy may end up revealing that he doesn't really know where he is. This game is full of perception tests, which makes it a lot of fun despite being simple.

Hi all, just wanted to establish that the registration period closes in 24 hours. I assume everyone is in different time zones so this should give enough leeway for any latecomers. Remember, the more people that play, the more fun there is to be had!

My apologies, I had a bit of a mishap with my outbox. Characters have been randomly redrawn. The players (listed in alphabetical order) are: filengotten gothicarchiesfan jean lucio roxy222 sherry ann tk Among you is a spy who does not know where you are. The spy's mission is to find out where everyone is. The other players' mission is to find out who the spy is. Try not to ask the wrong questions. The first player, also chosen by means of a die, is gothicarchiesfan. gothicarchiesfan, you have up to 2 days to ask any question to another player.
