As the title suggests I don't ship Violaf (Violet x Olaf).
Somehow someone thought it was a "good" idea to ship these together. This may have been due to the first book with the whole Marvellous Marriage thing.
But I'd like to clear a few things up.
One, Count Olaf forced Violet to marry him only to obtain their fortune. Two, I'm pretty sure Violet wouldn't want to marry Olaf on her own freewill anyway.
My main reason for not supporting this ship is that it's an older man marrying a child.
That being said, I do not ship Violaf.

But I'd like to clear a few things up.
One, Count Olaf didn't force Violet to marry him only to obtain their fortune. He also did it because he was sexually attracted to her. Two, I'm pretty sure Violet would want to marry Olaf on her own freewill anyway, because she was sexually attracted to him, as well.
My main reason for supporting this ship is that it's an older man marrying a child, which I find arousing.
That being said, I DO ship Violaf.

You’re being sarcastic, right? Please get used to it ... I suggest you read his old texts and comments to better understand him.

I, on the other hand, ship VIOLAS. PM me, I'll get you a good deal.

I've always felt that this ship, if one can really dignify it with the name, is one of those which says a great deal about any author who chooses to write it. In terms of characterisation, there's simply no way of arguing that as a relationship it has any canon merit. In that respect, the only way I can see this conversation moving forwards is if a genuine current or former Violaf writer were to appear and explain their reasoning and motivation; for the simple reason that, sarcasm aside, nobody who has actually read the books is going to disagree with what counto has to say, to the extent that it essentially goes without saying.

Does anyne ship Violaf nowadays? My feeling is that it was already in decline when I joined the fandom in, what was it, 2008, along with the incest ships that were very widespread in the early days. By the time I arrived, people were just soberly arguing over Klaus/Fiona versus Klaus/Isadora, and even that is something I see less of now.
It obviously doesn't make sense as an interpretation of canon, but I get the sense it was never meant to be that: it was (like a lot of fanfic in the olden days) more a matter of playing with the books to create new worlds.

That's a fair reading of the situation, Hermes. My impression is that 667 fostered something of a culture of what Handler would later label "disturbing fanfiction", but this seems to have been something of an undercurrent in the wider fanfiction community for ASoUE as well. All this incest business didn't come out of nowhere; I suspect it has something to do with TBB in particular encouraging those with rather dark imaginations, and the series taking a while about introducing any love interests - which the shipping-inclined really can't do without. (Additionally, of course, there is the fact that Handler literally wrote the book on incest.)

I think ship is a very poor form of fanfic. I mean, I have nothing against romantic couples. But I don't like reading a story that revolves around it all the time.

Jesus I can't believe people still ship Violet with Olaf, that's absolutely disgusting and creepy.
Violet and Mr. Remora, on the other hand... that's a whole different story.

Relationship between teacher and student ... It is something more revolting than among a villain and an orphan.
