I wasn't sure where to drop this--and please feel free to move--but....LET'S GO! Spoilers from here on out...
...
......
............
I am loving it so far. I got my hands on an early copy. It's ILLUSTRATED! It so far has ZERO to do with ASoUE but I'm truly loving it. If I taught philosophy at a high school, we'd read this book.
I loved Handler's section on Native Americans, as well as his brief but beautifully done section on slavery in the United States.
The book itself is VERY small. Bot content wise but it's literally a small volume--it is currently resting in the pocket of denim jacket.

ryantrimble457, were you able to perceive what might make it controversial? Also, can we tell what age Lemony is in it?

ryantrimble457, were you able to perceive what might make it controversial? Also, can we tell what age Lemony is in it? So I just finished it! Yay! So here is my answer: Lemony is CURRENT aged. Like, full adult, what-he-is-right-now. He talks about the other books he's written--he mentions "Shouldn't You Be In School" and "29 Myths on the Swinster Pharmacy" BY NAME--and though he never mentions the Baudelaires, but he DOES use the phrase "That's not how the story goes" which made me GASP. As for controversial? I didn't see anything that was wildly controversial, except that the book is more or less entirely plotless. He receives the note in the morning and then walks place to place thinking about it. Like "I walked to the park and it reminded me of... then I walked to the library and it reminded me of..." Like the books ends with him realizing SUPER HUGE SPOILER IDK HOW TO HIDE IT SPOILER!!! The book ends with him realizing the note was actually an idea for a story HE WROTE TO HIMSELF and then lost. When he refound it he thought someone had slipped it to him. So that I suppose could be controversial? He also, as I mentioned, does touch on some racial aspect of history, but he doesn't say anything any other liberal writer hasn't (rightly) already said. He just says it his way. It's honestly really well done. It's clear this book has a market of NO ONE except existing fans. Which is a LOT of people. And while I personally would enjoy it even if I didn't know ASoUE, I can't imagine it's something the average random reader will dig if they find it like...without warning. I have to make it clear: I LOVED this book. LOVED.

NOT a spoiler Only read 2 chapters so far, but is anyone else finding it really meandering/hard to focus on? Also ryantrimble457 you can use spoiler tags, and you really should edit your post and do so in future posts. Thanks.

I find it interesting that Lemony basically admits that
Lemony is Jewish, and VFD represents Jews around the world. I have long suspected that the Baudelaire's journeys and travels were a parable for galut (or golus) - a word which here means the wandering of Jews exiled from their homeland through many different countries, most of them hostile. Posion For Breakfast essentially admits that. (I have been kicking myself for not asking this question in the PFB interview with Daniel Handler. However, he basically admits it in PFB, so its alright.)

I as an adult fan is digging it. Think of it as a guidebook how to read ASOUE and ATWQ. He is basically saying "when you read my books look up the references!"
