This book had its ups and downs. On one hand, it didn't have a lot of the humor that I had grown to like so much. On the other hand, it provided a lot of clues and added more mystery. I *really* didn't like how they introduced ideas that we had already gleaned like 18 months ago from TUA: I liked the subtleties of the books, how you have to read them over and over again to get clues. Some of the things that were revealed, like what VFD stands for, was like it was being bludgeoned into our faces with a sledgehammer. And what was with K's picnic suggestion/Baudelaire mother's dish? Is K the Baudelaires' mother and Snicket's been leading us on a red herring for all this time? I don't want to say that this book was horrible. I really liked the plot, and the new revelations. It's just that this book felt more like a cluefest than a real Snicket book. Then again, I've only read it once. I'll probably change my mind when I read it a couple more times. -AndaYeerk P.S. Hilarious, HILARIOUS Sunny Speech in this one. "Suppertunity"? LOL. I especially liked on p. 107 when Sunny says "Busheney" as in Prez Bush/VP Cheney. Check out the meaning...political commentary, anyone?

Toothy? That's a new one... I'm "savoring" it... And I'm also sharing the wonders of chapter two with certain specific people, and that takes a while The board will be loaded soon. I'm sure it will. And the masks will probably be see-through... or at least Violet and Klaus'... they might make that ONE mask unable to be seen through, and then Violet and Klaus' with less dense screening so you can see their facial expressions.

Toothy... *tries to remember*
I'll be glad to discuss anything up to page 181... I just don't want anything to be spoiled...
I'm curious about the actual scene when the caravan goes into the stream... is it a huge cliff that it falls off of, or just a couple inches into the water?
Edit: This was in the first chapter... for any other spoilers I'll announce in capital letters that they're spoilers...

BSam? Who said anything about BSam? ;D (SPOILERS... blah blah blah, just out of courtesy...) Well, that part did confuse me, since the way it was written made it sound like they were just about to skid into the stream, instead of falling off the cliff then into the stream. Carmelita is such a static character. Oh my gosh, she does nothing but call people cakesniffers and tell stories about herself- boring. Do you know of any green cigarettes? How stupid is Esme?

Did anyone get TCC clue, with the two people who will never be seen again?
At first I thought it was Duncan & Isadora, but now that Quigley is the survivor, I believe it's the Baudelaire parents.
Thoughts?
