Who else is moderately convinced that Mrs. Baudelaire is still alive? (Remember the page of the Snicket file that the Baudelaires intercepted?) On the last page there was a subtle comment that their father will never rise from the dead, so the mother must be the one alive... if either of them are alive... Also... about the salad suggestion... L.S. wrote to his sister and told her that her recipe for a specific salad was good, and then later one of the Baudelaires, I think it's Sunny, remembers watching her mother make the exact same salad. As soon as I read that, I thought [shadow=red,left,300]THEIR MOTHER IS LEMONY SNICKET'S SISTER!![/shadow] ... But that can't be. In his letter to his sister Lemony mentions "the Baudelaires" and all their horrible situations, and would he really be writing like that to their mother?? I dunno... does anyone else have any theories on this? Maybe that salad recipe was just very popular in the V.F.D. ... About Violet and Quigley, I think they kissed on that ice ledge!! Or something special like that happened because they both had "secret smiles" on their faces when they continued, and because Lemony compared the matter to his relationship with Beatrice, the woman he loved. By the way, if you go to the official site, www.lemonysnicket.com, and you have your copy of the Slippery Slope in hand, it tells you how to find a clue about the next book!! I haven't done it yet but I can't wait to try...

Something else I noticed, on the bottom of 335 and top of 336 is says, "and indeed, the grown men in the Baudelaires lives who were dead, such as Jacques Snicket, OR THE CHILDREN'S FATHER, were never going to rise up. " ) the childrens father could be the quagmires father, because it doestn't say which children it is bcuz both sets of kids had ties with jacques and their fathers

alright...now that we're at 9 pages for this forum...and seeing as im all giddy and fidgity because of all the mysteries surrounding the baudelaires (and may i mention that half my giddyness comes from Violet+Quigly??? AAAH! WUT ABOUT DUNCAN??? poor dearie...ill still love him. i was also rather disappointed at Violet. She and Duncan had been through so much more and he helped them even more than Quigly did...whereas two days after the baudelaires meet Quigly...Violet and him share their lil 'private moment'.) however, to business. i think that amongst all these rumours we can safely say that Lemony Snicket is the Baudelaire childrens' uncle. the salad recipe proves that completely. i found it as obvious as a swarm of snow gnats flying into ones eyeballs...but for those who didn't spot it it goes like this. on pg. 100 Lemony hides a letter to his SISTER in the book after he's convinced that no one would 'continue reading' it after all his warnings. he mentions her other picnic suggestion which is a recipe for a chilled salad. on page 112 Sunny is thinking back to the time when her mother was preparing an enormous luncheon and was quickly whipping her ol' recipe for a chilled salad...if that doesn't prove it i dont know WHAT will... ya, but he says: well it should be easy for u to remeber BEATRICE's birthday. Why would he say that if she was beatrice? also, he says that her other picnic suggestion (after the tea set) of the salad.... would be delicous. if this is a suggestion, wouldn't everyone have heard it, as i think that his sister would be happy to share the recipe. So, the baudelarie mother had herd the suggestion she could have made it to remind her of the good old days...

i see now how the vfd symbol makes an eye but that still doesnt explain olafs obsession with the eye

he has it tatooed on his ankle... maybe DH needed to distract from the eye in olafs own house to seem like olaf just liked eyes
maybe olaf is obsessed with wrecking VFD and the eyes symbolizes that for hiim

Olaf is just weird? And crazy? And there's probably some explanation for his whole eye-obsession thing, but I can't see any yet. What do you think of Violet and Quigley? And what about Duncan? IMHO they definatly kissed on the ledge. I think i like Violet/Quigley better than Violet/Duncan, but I'm not quite sure. Even though it is a Series of Unfortunate Events, I felt terrible when Quigley was swept down the river! Not just because I liked Quigley, but because Violet is losing everyone again.

Olaf's Fire Department causes the Overall Feeling of Doom! Look in the LSUA index for Official Fire Department, though...Red Herring? Or is the Red Herring a Red Herring?

But if it wasn't confusing it would be so much less interesting. And confusion is addictive, it makes you spend days trying to understand. and for random question of the minute: How many red herrings make a blue herring? Do two red herrings make a blue herring. Or is that just fish...tuna fish + tuna fish = fourna fish?

ummm... when he said the bauds father was dead, it was a red herring. Give me some evidence that HE IS DEAD, not that the baud mother is alive. To see my evidence, it is a thread titled something like, "THE BAUDELAIRE FATHER IS ALIVE!! READ!! READ!!!" or, "IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!!! QUICKLY!!!" so look there

P.S. Correct me if i am wrong, but in TVV, did it ever clearly state the children seeing Jaques die, getting stabbed or burned? Cause if it didnt the Village of F.D. and olaf and esme and jaques could have put on something. Also, people tend to scream and/or yell when they die, so someone would have heard jaques die. Also, the children would have seen the smoke from the burning, as it occured a few hours earlie at most during the day. And remerber, where there's smoke, there's fire.".
