True, but there's other evidence, too, like the illustration with the notebooks being destroyed, in TVV. It seems pretty certain...

Why would a Volunteer Fire Deptment take little* children out of their homes by their ankles, give them a tatoo** of an eye on their ankle, keep them away from people they know for long periods of time at least, and why would DH tell Helquist what V.F.D. stands for?!?! *meaning under 9. **this is not done any more, but still.

I need to go cry.

soory i couldnt say i was sick but here is my idea...
Ersatz elevator- go to the chapter picture when they get out of the long tunnel. There is a picture of a man and a woman (presumably Mr and Mrs Baudelaire.)
Bad beginning- opening picture- the man driving the firetruck has a long moustache, like Mr.B. in the EE picture, and kind of looks like him. So, Mr.B did not die from the fire, unless he burned himself.
The daily punctilio, which is not a very reliable newspaper that tends to prevaricate, published his death.
Possibility of Mr.B being mentioned in the snicket file- 1/7 2 snicket parents, 2 quagmire parents, quigley, 2 baudelaire parents.
LSUA: Chance of Charles baudelaire being the survivor in the snowman of zombies in the snow by gustav sebald- 50% inside the coded letter (pg 61) basically it says to montgomery mongomery to bring the three children (Violet, Klaus, and Sunny) to the place where the film takes place there is a survivor of the fire, your new assistant is not one of us, beware!
That is a pretty good chance he is alive.
If, in fact, Mrs. Baudelaire is Mr.Lemony Snicket's sister, she is probably alive, because in various books by LS he interrupts and says, "My dear sister, I am heading North to try to find you" etc. tell me what you think of my theory!

well, keya, i don't think you'll be too disappointed with what i say -quigley quagmire...freaking rocks. i love him so so so much. BUT i love his siblings just as much. (is that ok?) -quigley & violet...way too cute. -now, this bit confuses me. when did the quagmire fire happen? some things make it seem like it was before the baudelaire fire, and other things make it seem after. i'll post evidence when i have some more time. -sunny! she's changed so much. i love her language in this book...busheney! false spring rolls! -the ending of this book was almost as sad as the ending of TAA...i know quigley'll be back, but i can't stand seeing someone i love leaving o.o -the VFD gathering "next thursday"....i think that book the 13th will be about this. anyone else? this is judging from how few days some of the books last....i don't know, just me.

There was insufficient evidence to place the time of the Quagmire fire against the Baudelaire file until TSS. Now that Quigley says he traveled down the secret passageway to Uncle Monty's and arrived after the Baudelaires were gone, we know that the Quagmire fire happened after book two but before book five.

I think a lot of people prefer Qugiley to Duncan just because he's different. Isadora and Duncan have had all of the same experiences, have had only each other to talk to until the Baudelaire's came to PPS. Quigley on the other hand had spent a lot of time alone and searching, solitude and contemplation have given him some gravitas and maturity that neither of his sibling possess.

you're right, efogoto, but it does say in TAA that the quags lived in the orphan's shack for 3 semesters...and 3 semesters wasn't books 3 and 4. so i'm really confused about the fire. i should reread chapter ... what is it? 8.
quigley just has something about him....mmm *melts*

don't you hate it when you post hard-researched evidence and no one pays the least attention? *hint hint look up*

V.F.D stands for volunteer fire department. There were so many clues and hints even before the slippery slope. The other V.F.D.- Are either meeting places (veritable french diner, valorous farms dairy) or device-type things (Verdant flammable device, Volunteer feline detectives) so there you go. But please read what I posted earlier on this page! It has to do with Mr.Baudelaire being alive![glow=red,2,300]TEXT[/glow]

At this point in the series, it's not so much about what VFD stands for, but what it does.
