If the whole site were a red herring, hundreds of people would lose their trust in Harper Collins, which would be really bad for future sales. Some of the clues have probably been red herrings, though, put there to confuse us.

Perhaps these are all ways that VFD will be used in Book the Twelfth. It makes more sense with some than others... like I don't see how Visitable Fungal Ditches would be referred to in a hotel. But maybe they'll talk about the VFD link to all those things that were in previous books... Oh, and a speculation... Vain Fat Dictator = Nero?

Vain Fat Dictator = Nero? That's a good observation; VP Nero is certainly vain and fat, and he does act like a dictator in dealing with students. There will probably be some discussion of VFD using VFD-initial things as codes.

I wonder how much input Daniel Handler has into The Nameless Novel.com. Do you think he really writes out all the tasks? They seem very Handler-esqe but that would take a great deal of time. He's also got LemonySnicket.com, the author tracker stuff, and- oh yeah- he's writing book the 13th or some other adult book. This guy is a hard worker.

I think that it's possible the Coded Communication messages were written by him (the coded message, not the full message), or that he at least had input in them (gave them the tidbits of information, and they put them into a form which worked). Other than that, though, I think a lot of the site was probably just people imitating his style.

I think there will be alot of VFD-ing in it.

I'm pretty sure Handler wrote most of the promotional materials(the little stories in those Lunchables packages, for instance) so he probably wrote a lot of the TNN.com material. He probably worked with the publishers and web-designers to pick out quotes for clues, and such.

What a wonderful test for today! Does this letter acknowledge the title leak? It seems to, in the last paragraph. Intersting that the top-hatted man was given today, when we stll have one more clue left. (I hope that tomorrow has something interesting besides the last piece. That seems....anticlimactic.)

Did anyone else have trouble with this? Flea the city? It seemed like there were more errors than just the ones we were to find. I basically wrote it all out and picked out the correct phrase.
Or is it just me?

[glow=orange,2,300]The answer to today’s clue is “This is the second to last ordeal” And yes, Handler does make a reference to the leak when he wrote ‘And you know the tile. I am so, so sorry.’ Top hatted man. He's smoking a pipe. He can't be Sir since Lemony said that he never saw his face.[/glow]

Or is it just me? Since "flea" is an obvious mistake and not part of the coded message, I think it must be an intentional clue. Perhaps the city, or at least the hotel, will suffer an attack of fleas.

Ive been watching this thread for some time now... and i think ive figured out how they can keep the suspence for the last piece........ notice that the piece would have the authors name... and we can tell it ends in KET but could it be possible that it becomes KIT SNICKET or some other snicket family member?! Just a thought... And great thread!
