We don't know for sure the baud parents did something bad, Fernald was just being hypothetical there. It's not for sure yet..

The way he said it, and the way Handler cut him off so that he couldn't finish his sentence, indicates to me that Fernald wasn't being in the least bit hypothetical there (I don't believe that of the Jacques Snicket or Count Olaf statement either, but your evidence stands against that - it's purely a matter of taste).
Anyway, that's not really on-topic. What is on-topic is that the site should be up in about two days.

I hope nobody else posted this but i just got a new LS autoreply: Dear Reader, In this large and alarming world, there are many, many types of mail. There are small envelopes that contain perfumed stationary filled with spelling mistakes, and large boxes that contain wild hippopotamuses and have breathing holes punched in them. There are postcards containing almost no information at all, and e-mails from volunteers who are concerned about the fate of particularly unlucky siblings. There are even mysterious electronic messages from famous authors who are hiding but still wish to thank you for your note and pass along a very important piece of information about the title of their next novel. Unfortunately, this message is not any of these things. In fact, this is a form letter, an _expression which here means "it is disguised to look as if Mr. Snicket is not personally responding." Please be reminded of Mr. Snicket's strong desire that you read some other, more pleasant books. Furthermore, it may be dangerous to write to him or for him to write to you directly, under any circumstances. In closing, please do not continue your investigation at www.thenamelessnovel.com. With all due respect, Not Lemony Snicket

Thank you for bringing that to our attention.
With just two days to go, it looks like they're spreading the word through as many mediums as possible.

I've never seen that autoreply before. It's quite interesting, and I wonder if it contains any useful clues or coded messages. Was the underscore before "expression" there in the original, or was it a code glitch of some sort?

Most odd. Must have been a typo.
