Why all the titles with P? Perilous could be a good first word No way would handler use the word spa in a title for a series of unfortunate events.

Perilous Plaza is good. A synonym for hotel is "public house", and "pub" is short for that, but the image of a pub or bar doesn't fit with what we know of the hotel. Another possibility is Perilous Passageway, if a secret passage turns out to be particularly important.

It's from the previous page, where we discussed the DH interview on lemonysnicket.com. He mentions several key words that could be connected to possible titles - "perilous" was indeed one of them. "Passageway" - good one, Antenora!

On the subject of P words: A picnic is mentioned in the interview with Daniel Handler on LS.com.
The Plundered--Passive--Pretentious--or, indeed, Perilous Picnic could be the title!

[glow=orange,2,300]But picnic sounds too... cheery, also, a picnic at the hotel? The Pepperoni Pizza[/glow]

The [Anything] Picnic would remind me of The Pony Party every time I heard it, no matter how terrible the adjective.
My money's on something directly hotel-related.

From all the publicity and the fact that we're working so hard to try to get the name of the book, it wouldn't seem right to say that it would have a normal title. I mean, if the title is e.g. The Perilous Plaza, then why would he make us go through all this? It should be no different than before (besides that he wants more people to get interested) . And if it is a normal title, then many people would be quite disappointed after all their work- that there's nothing special about it. My guess is that it will either be something that nobody would ever think of in a million years, or it's something that's been under our noses the whole time, like if the book actually was called The Nameless Novel, or something like that.

I wouldn't be disappointed in what you deem a "normal" title - I'd be disappointed by an unoriginal, uninventive title. However, I can see your point - all this hype would be pointless if there was nothing unusual or special about the title.

My brother suggested to me The Hapless Hotel, but I really don't think that's what it is. I don't think it's The Horrible Hotel, either. But I'd be SO upset if it was called The Nameless Novel. But Handler wouldn't do that to us.
Would he?

I'd be highly disappointed if he reused initials.
Any PP title would remind me a bit of The Pony Party, and Handler could mention The Pony Party within the book someplace("many books have the same initials, and there is a far happier book with the same initials as this one...")

NOOOO no PP titles! One, immature posters would laugh whenever someone typed PP, and two, it'd sound FAR too much like The Pony Party for me to enjoy it properly. NO HH titles, either. One, he's used THH already, and two, we'd get confused as to which HH one was referring to.

OK, then. How about LL? Would that do too much to encourage those doofuses people who speculated on "The Lousy Lane" as a title?
I rather like "The Loathsome Lobby"
Or how about II? "The Incendiary Inn" perhaps? (Unfortunately, the word "incendiary" means "causing or capable of causing a fire." It's unlikely that the hotel would catch itself on fire, because that would be an accident, not arson.) Actually, the more I think about it, the more I like it. What do you think? Would "Incendiary" work, or is the definition limited to chemicals or devices used to cause fires?
