I think that maybe Geraldine DID send Mr Poe..
After all, if you read the letter by Geraldine to Esmé Squalor (pg. 119 of LSUA) it says that Esmé asked Geraldine to do her a big favour, and that Geraldine would do anything else, all Esmé needed to do was ask...
So I think Esmé got Geraldine to send a letter to Mr Poe (signed JS...to throw us off course) to lure the Baudelaires away from Kit....perhaps?

I also believe that Geraldine Julienne is a member of the Esmé Squalor Fan Club.

nonono. JS has to be the one VFD sent messages to. No one would send messages to her after what she did during the schism. But yes she is a member of the esme fan club. Perhaps the founder.

I highly doubt Geraldine Julienne is the one sending mr. poe messages. I think it may be justice strauss because she always did have a fond interest in the baudelaires and she may be in VFD herself "it's always good to see young people with such an interest in books" She may have simply sent Mr. Poe to the beach so she could take the orphans in as she planned in book 1. It's a theory. Not the best...

Eh? The're not JS they're M and N. Remember, this person has to be the one VFD left a message for at HQ. It needs to be someone VFD would actually keep contact with.

I think Mr. Poe is just kind of a dense guy. I really don't think he understands what is going on at all. He dosen't realize he is in middle of this huge thing with the VFDers and the Baud's fortune. He isn't helping them at all true. Maybe as someone already mentioned, a bad VFDer did sent him, or has been kind of using him without his realizing it.

I agree completely with the first part, and think that you might well be right with the second part.

^^ Yeah, I completely agree to...
I believe on of the bad-schismers are using him in a way he will never understand. Mr. Poe is incredibly silly and oblivious to all the things going on around him.

I concur. The idea that Mr. Poe is a puppet of bad VFD makes more sense than having him as an actual member or Olaf henchperson. Still, I wonder why the banker disguise used by VFD matches his outfit so neatly.

It was an operagoer disguise.
Operagoer Disguise:Hat(top) + suit(black) + shoes(formal) + money(to create the illusion of wealth).
Still, it's interesting to note how much that sounds like Poe's outfit. We've seen most of the other disguises on various characters(although I don't recall the admiral, barbecuer, or nudist ones).
