It's possible, although they're probably just generic loot bags. If it was that easy to snatch the Baudelaire fortune, I find it hard to believe that Olaf wouldn't have done it. Though Olaf may be getting revenge for what the Baud parents did to HIS parents. Just as he suffered for HIS parents death, so will the children of the Baudelaires, or so might he think, which is why he creates all those crazy elaborate plans. Besides, the bank would probably replace the money if it were stolen, unless it was bankrupt, or something.

Olaf wanting revenge is perfectly plausible, and I do believe that's why he burnt down the mansion - if he did, which he probably did, although he might not have - although in the previous books all his over-elaborate plans have had the ultimate goal of getting hold of the Baudelaires so that he can get their fortune. Except for TEE, which just didn't make sense.

I do wonder if the money bags contained the Baudelaire fortune, as well as the Spats and Winnipeg fortunes, if those were in the bank. It seems to me that Olaf does not aspire to merely steal the Baudelaire fortune. He wants it to become legally his. Through illegal means, of course.

I just can't wait untill the next one because this one left me with so many questions. I feel like this book puts everything on the edge and it could fall either way. Anything could happen. Also what is the secret that died with Dewey?

The secret of the sugar bowl's location, if I recall correctly - although that didn't die with him; the Baudelaires and a certain taxi-driver guessed where it ended up.
Oh, wait. More likely, his underwater catalog. That's a secret which also died with him, although technically a fair number of other volunteers also know about it.
Depends on the context, I guess. What's the quote?

I get the impression that Dewey knew the underwater catalog best, but there are many other volunteers who know about it, even if they aren't entirely familiar with it. There could be something in the catalog that only he knows about, for instance.

the female finnish pirates-or FFP-were mentioned disticntly in BBRE, but there were scattered references, including a mention of that they were the ones who made the devil's tongue knot.

And what do you guys think of Esme's bikini? Do you think Handler was wise to include that in a children's book?

I think he described it quite well("...ask someone who is not as squeamish as I am about discussing the bodies of villainous women") and it wasn't terribly inappropriate.

Some large bookstores might have it, or you could order it from Barnes & Noble

I'm fairly confident we'll be meeting them soon enough. And now it obviously makes sense what with them travelling the high seas. But from the looks of it, Briny Beach isn't at all far from the hotel. They were in the same city after all...
