I don't think that it could have been Kit. Mostly because it would have been difficult for a pregant lady to travel around that cavern. Also the lady who was in the cavern was mentioned to be in the back of the taxi in ch. 10 during that chapter it also says that Kit is going towards a coral reeef to find widdershines

Dutchess R could be anyone but Fiona's mum sounds like a good guess....
EDIT: I personally suspect Dutchess R is the swimming woman in TGG who is most likely also the woman who was hiding in the trunk of mysterious cigarrette man, and possibly even the passenger in the taxi which Lemony drove when chasing Kit

Also the lady who was in the cavern was mentioned to be in the back of the taxi in ch. 10... I don't believe that it actually states that, but quite a few people, myself included, believe that. And I'm leaning towards that person being the Duchess, as it would introduce her to the series, although it could quite easily be someone else (the Duchess, from what we know of her, doesn't seem to have seen much active service - it's all masked balls and observatory lectures).

It definetly hints towards her returning. In the 10th book it mentions her, and in the 11th book Klaus decodes the Verse Fluctuation Declaration in the grotto and finds the messge "Duchess R".I'm alsofor the idea of her being the swimmer and the person in the cab's trunk.(the whet object being the sugarbowl that she found underwater)

when sir says " i dont care about the steem! i just like the smell of hot wood!" this could mean that he is a villan coz he likes fires coz of the smell of hot wood. i dunno maybe he just likes it coz he own the lumber mill. sunny use to be my fave characters but shes not in the pp. its weird having a baby as your fave character as ababie but 'nthings possible with sunny!lol! it has been good to see her grow up. one of my fave quotes from lemony was when he said something along the lines of "how ppl cant read when they are young and if you can congratz" its sounds gay when i say it coz my friend has my book but it really was funny!!! and aslo that bit about that cry me a river song. lol

Please don't use "gay" in a derogative sense, please.
From what we know of her, Duchess R. is a noble person rather than a wicked person. Apparently, she's close friends with Kit, for one thing, and might have been one of Lemony's first friends in V.F.D. If she'd become a villain, then that would be a dark day.

"...and we can ask for all soldiers in the world to lay down their weapons, and join us in a rousing chorus of 'Cry Me A River'..." (p 190)
One of the funniest bits of the book. This was definatley the most humorous.

Yeah I think it lacked in emotional appeal, but it was certainly the most funniest out of the series

Dante, in TUA it says that Lemony suspected that Duchess R. was an imposter. Maybe the inposter killed her and is pretending to be her?

He merely thought that the letter had been written by an impostor - the fact that a later letter from the real R. to Kit, in which she said she could not write to Mr. Snicket because it was too dangerous, indicates that both the real R. and the impostor are both alive, at least at that moment.

Please don't use "gay" in a derogative sense, please. Thank you, Dante. That always bugged me too. I agree. I'm going to put that in my play version of TPP that I plan to write soon. LOL In-jokes LOL.

This was definatley the most humorous. I don't know which "Cry Me A River" most people are thinking about, but when dealing with Daniel Handler, I doubt he would use the Justin Timberlake version. However, there's also an Ella Fitzgerald version, one from Diana Krall, an Aerosmith version, along with several others. My point being is that we don't know which version that Handler intends, although he might just be poking fun at a popular song title that keeps with his theme of misery.
