I've always thought so. But remember how Snicket said that he did not know where they were now? Maybe the mother IS alive, but sometime in the very near future (I'm NOT saying RIGHT in book thirteen, I mean maybe after they grow up) She'll really and truely end up dead.

That would be sad. Very sad. The Bauds have been through soo much trauma, that would be just way to depressing for an ending.

i just finished the book today, and after reading it, i felt like it was pointless. there wasn't any real revelation except finding out that count olaf is younger then the kids parents, and he was also an orphan. and the poison dart thing. the whole trial seemed stupid and also pointless. it was funny to imagine everyone wearing blindfolds though.

Oh it may seem like it didn't tell us anything at the moment but I think when we get the answersto all these mysteries we will realize we wouldn't have been able to understand them without knowing what was said in TPP.

In that way, TPP was a lot like the Autobiography--what it tells us seems to make little sense right now, but in the context of Book 13 and TNNotations, it'll all seem much clearer.

Yes, I could see how it could be such a thing, but unfortunately that doesn't exactly help us now. We have been starving for answers for too long...

*lauren's stomach grumbles, she looks down and pats it* Soon my precious, soon...
On another quite random note...I was looking at the opening picture this morning and noticed a small flag above a building to the right...any ideas about what flag it is...to me it looks like the American flag, white slightly striped with a darker corner, suggesting the story is set in America...which fits as daniel himself is American.

We probably will have to fill many gaps for ourselves. Plus Handler himself said that the series would not end in excessive death.

Handler's said that the series won't have a completely tragic ending in several interviews, although I can't remember the exact sources.

I know that Handler has repeatedly said the ending is NOT "bittersweet" but I'm not entirely sure as to what that means. It's certainly Handler's ambiguous type of answer, but now instead of actually victorious I'm leaning toward tragic.

Yeah I have always leaned towards tragic...it would be a tragedy if it wasn't tragic

LOL. I don't think that it'll end perfectly "littlest elf" sweet; I'd die if it did. I do, however, think it'll show an end to their misfortune, if not a toning-down of it.
Nor do I think it'll end compleatly awfully tragic. If Violet (or Klaus or Sunny) died, it'd be too sad. Olaf even. I doubt that any of the orphans will die (Olaf's orphaned, too, keep that in mind), but Hector and Kit are still open for questioning.
