I don't know where to put this and it is too trivial to have a thread dedicated to it....but it partly involves TPP so I'll post here The setting at the beginning of UA is described as a tall, imposing building with a wide, imposing lobby and a middle-aged, imposing doorman, usually dressed in a coat that is too big for him, standing at the entrance to direct visitors to the elevators pg x UA What was originally suspected to be the apartments on 667 Dark avenue also fits the description of hotel denouement....

Oh that is interesting. But did Hotel D have a doorman?

no. no they didn't. That is, unless you count Frank, maybe Ernest. Whomever was sortof a doorman; he greeted the Baudelaires at the door.

I don't think they can be considered a doorman they are the managers of the Hotel. Unless they are Manager/Doorman.

Actually, that was the description of the publishing house.

You're right; it says the doorman had taken his job in hopes of getting his diary published. I think it's supposed to be the HarperCollins building. And the Hotel didn't have a doorman during TPP, although there might have been one, working for VFD, at some point.

Handler says in the introduction that the letter to him (from the person who received the doorman's diary) was from the people who published the U.A. - so yes, it is certainly the publishers, be they HarperCollins or Egmont or anyone else.

LOL. Nice on Handler's part to mention the publisher.

AND...Fernald and Frernest (Frank/Ernest) were both described as tall and skinny with long arms (Fernald in TBB, Frernest in TPP.)

But Fernald is already a Widdershins, unless the Denouments and the Widdershins are part of the same family tree.

Fernald (and Fiona')s surname isn't Widdershins. Captain Widdershins is only his stepfather, not his real father. That man left the family many years ago, when Fiona was just a baby.
Edit: So in theory, Fernald and Fiona's father could be a Denouement - but it's highly unlikely.

If triplets run in the Denouement family, Fernald and Fiona break the pattern. I agree they are not likely to be Denouements.

I don't see why it couldn't be Frank...the F theme continuing...a more solid candidate than many, anyway...

Well purhaps fernald and fiona have a long lost sibling...I mean, to fit in with the three sibling pattern....
