Maybe Curdled Cave was a V.F.D base and the Realtors are the bad guys and sold it to somebody so it couldn't be used as a base anymore.

If realtors had invaded Curdled Cave, I would have thought that perhaps Aunt Josephine WOULDN'T want to hide there. :S But you never know.

Probably not, knowing Snicket.

Reatlors remind me of the whole Taxi cab thing at the start of TPP. Where Kit states a taxi can pick up anyone who wistles for it so it could be an evil or noble person, same with Realtor. They can sell to whoever is buying and in the end maybe that is why they are considered evil.

That's a very good point - or they could be doing deals with villains to change prices by burning down buildings in certain places... But realtors are generally considered to be unpleasant people, anyway. But that could have been how it started.
Heh, it's entertaining how a few tiny jokes from Snicket can bring about so much discussion and speculation.

It may very well be some sort of back-story's plotline, because who would by a CAVE? Especially one that's curdled. I'm sure there's some other motive. Sorry if that was a litle odd. I'm not very good with wording. Speaking of Aunt Josephine, she would be great practice for my job as a psychologist. If I lived in the Snicketverse. Sometimes I wish I did.

Sounds great! I'll try to include the back-story in my fanfic "The Snicket Snickersnee".

Maybe the cave has a tunnel like the penthouse?

I suspect that if VFD was ever meeting in caves, they'd have built secret passageways connecting them to other sanctuaries.

I hope the idea goes good for you.
It seems that characters who end up having the tunnels are usually connected to VFD but not always VFD members. Jerome

It's worth noting that there's a Sebald film called "Realtors In the Cave". The "enormous cavern" could have been Curdled Cave, and maybe the realtors who took over were responsible for trying to sell it. OH!!! and then like zombies in the snow... could that be reffering to TSS? and whats the other one*thinks* Vampires in the rain... idk what that one could be... but they all seem to be scary things that are located in something normal.

Zombies In the Snow might have been filmed near the Mortmain Mountains. I think some of those other film titles(Werewolves in the Rain, Vampires in the Retirement Community) are just funny and random, though, not really related to any setting we know.
