Another possible clue is that there are hints that Charles and Sir are a romantic couple, as here: TPP p. 355 ...they saw Charles and Sir, who were holding hands so as not to lose one another...Two men could be a couple, but in this series? Handler has had trouble with book-banners before. "There's nothing wrong with caring about people," Charles said quietly. "I care about you, Sir."TPP - p113 He'd get away with it if it was subtle enough.

I've been wondering about Charles and Sir's relationship. Charles seems to be a lot more sympathetic toward Sir than anyone else; he says something about Sir having a bad childhood in TMM.

hmmmm..... It could be a coupling, wether it's Female/Male or Male/Male. We must, however, consider the fact that they are just extremely close friends. I care deeply about my female friends that way.

I simply can't believe (or as somebody said, imagine) Sir being a woman. How on earth would he change his voice?

Lol. RockSunner will remember my parody on ff.net, which also involves Sir/Charles. As a joke, obviously.

Handler has had trouble with book-banners before. Yes, but Handler has also included homosexual figures in his adult novels. I do not believe Sir is a woman. For one, why would a woman insist on people calling her Sir? As a disguise? This sounds far-fetched. As for the relationship between Charles and Sir, I doubt we will hear about them again. This mention of them in Book 12 was merely Mr. Snicket's way of appeasing my personal desire to see them together again. (I wish) There are other hints to their being a couple, however...They are 'partners', Charles displays a submissive personality that men in relationships often display (namely being "whipped"), Sir only seems to talk to Charles, and not any of the workers at the mill, Charles apparently has access to Sir's possessions maybe even a key to his house (as evidenced by Charles ironing Sir's shirts in the fourth book) It would not surprise me if it was the intention of the author for them to seem gay.

A green shiny suit, green Snicket, Quagmire, and Baudelaire homes. Sir said that they used to provide the timber for vollunteer's homes. Prehaps it's a signal. Having a green suit (or house) could signify that you're a vollunteer. Kind of like having an eye tattoo, just not so obvious or permanant. Then again, what isn't obvious about having green timber walls?

I hadn't thought about the connection between Sir's green suit and the green lumber Luck Smells Lumbermill sells. It could be simple business advertising, though.

Or maybe we are way overthinking this and Daniel just felt in a greenish mood at the time he wrote down Sir's description and the time he wrote down diving woman's description

That's a good connection between the color of the suit and the color of the wood--maybe Sir likes the color dark green, which is apparently VFD's color as well(because they build their mansions out of green wood, and many have green notebooks). Or he could wear green to advertize the emerald lumber.

Hotel Denouement is made from green wood, and it's from Lucky Smells Lumbermill. Sir or Charles mentioned that they had to deliver the wood in the middle of the night, and that Sir never heard from the organisation again, until they were invited to the hotel by J.S. I think the only connection Sir has to V.F.D. is through the lumber he sells to them, and no more, although Charles seems to be in a similar position to Jerome or Strauss.

Did it sound far fetched when Olaf was diguised as Shirley? *gasp!!!!!* Olaf's only WOMAN disguise was in MM, the debut of SIR AND CHARLES!!!

Charles tells Sir when Klaus first appears that a concierge would refer to all male guests in the hotel as sir(this when Sir whips around yelling: HOW DID YOU KNOW MY NAME?) So I'm pretty sure he's male. Just a thought.

I don't think Sir is a female(very hard to imagine). I don't think Sir and Charles are gay either(why would Harper even risk puting it in a KIDS series?).
