I actually find Klaus pretty annoying too. I mean, he is portrayed to know so much but he really doesn't know nearly as much as he says he does. I have everal examples of this. In book 1, when Olaf is explaining the whole "Stick behind a stubborn mule" thing when Sunny is in the cage, Klaus says, "Our sister is not a stick". Now why would he not know this phrase if he reads so much fine literature. Also in book 1, when Mr. Poe says "break a leg" Klaus is like "WTF?". Now, how do uyou possibly not know this one ESPECIALLY if you are a highly educated reader.
ALso, throuought the series, doesn't it seems strange the Klaus has read all about history and animals and historical figures but seems clueless about the inventors VIolet mentions. Surely, he would have read or at least heard of them given the ammount of books he reads....surely?
That's why I don't like Klaus. He (and L:emony) thinks he's so smart but he's just a nerd who thinks he knows everything.

EXactly! Thats why i voted him as least favorite. It was so annying when Kevin said to the hookhanded man (something along the lines of) " I'd rather have hooks for hands than two equally strong hands"

I know what you mean. At first, Sunny was really annoying to me because throughout the first few books, she HAD NO POINT. But then she got better. But like I've said before, I think the whole "I'm a grand master chef even though I've never cooked before in my life" thing is totally stupid. But I don't really think I hate any character now...I just like some more than others. But here's something I realized:
The Baudelaires all have, more or less, the same personality. Throughout the whole time writing these books, the character development was pretty bad. They did not really change, besides the fact that they felt guilty about not being noble.

I thought they changed quite a bit. Sunny learns to speak actual words, and Violet meets a love interest (quigley). Wait...man, that isn't much, never mind.

Yeah, Asoue' Characters tend to be a bit unidimensional.
...
Okay, TOTALLY unidimensional. Handler improved that in the last books, but not by much. The least unidimensional characters, in my opinion, were Olivia, Fernald and Fiona. Woooops. Is it a coincidence that all of them are both antagonists and allies at some point of the books ?

Never noticed that, but yeah, you might be right. He wrote Fiona and Madame Lulu quite well even though they only appear once and he gave great depth to Fernald in book 11.

I voted Captain Widdershins. I just don't think he had been developed fully. With such a HUGE personality, it was hard enough to sympathize with him, much less understand him as he teeters back and forth between the two sides of the schism.
I found Ishmael to be annoying the first time I read The End, but after I read it the second time I found him fascinating and tragic. "You Bauldelaires have always rocked the boat." It's just good reading.

Ishmael's past was pretty tragic. But I'm still annoyed at him for hiding so much from his villagers and forcing them to live so primitively. And I'm angry that he diluted himself from the poison while condeming the other islanders to die.

I know. I'd hate to be at one of his concerts.....
And can you imagine trying to talk to someone who mimics everything you say in an annoying and childish voice?

It's true that Nero is extremely annoying. I hate him and Mr. Poe, too.
