Check this I found at Amazon.ca www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/031232703X/qid=1081557323/sr=1-21/ref=sr_1_2_21/702-9140770-6235259And apparently there will be more books -the ones mentioned before in other threads- about the movies and promotional items -you know, posters, postcards, puzzles,... Apparently the Ominous Omnibus is afterall a boxed set that includes the TBB, TRR, and TWW movie tie in editions. Also there's the release date -or so it seems for the 12th and 13th book!! So the release dates are: 12th ~ Sep 7, 2005!! 13th ~ July 8, 2006

That guide has an interesting title "The Reader's Guide to Lemony Snicket: Eyeballs Leeches Hypnotism and Orphans the Truth Behind the Series". Shouldn't it have some commas in there somewhere? It's the first ever Lemony Snicket "reader's guide" that I know of, not counting websites like the renowned Unofficial Faq. This author has previously written guides about Star Trek and Dragonball Z, as well as a book about the science of superheroes. Those got mediocre-to-bad reviews, but maybe this Snicket guide will be worth checking out because, well, it's Snicket. And it has a great, if poorly punctuated, title.

I'm not sure if it will be worth reading, I mean look at the title. Besides the poor punctuation, which could have been an Amazon mistake, the items listed the aren't very relevant to Snicket's world. Ok, eyeballs, in fact it should be just eyes, and leeches and hypnotism, those were just mention in 1 book each. I don't know maybe they're more important afterall.

Your'e right about the relative nonimportance of leeches and hypnotism; they are both just small parts of the story. Did you read the reviews of the author's other books? That could give you an idea of what to expect from this book. At least the title's good for a laugh. The strangest part of it is "the truth behind the series". What truth? Snicket's books are works of fiction. At least that's what I try to convince myself.

The truth as in the secrets of V.F.D., Beatrice, etc.

I noticed that too Tocuna. More commos and just little parts of the story.

From the title, I get the strange impression that this guide pertains only to the early parts of the series. "Eyeballs Leeches Hypnotism and Orphans", is information one can get from the back covers of the books, the early ones. And I think that if I ever start a band, I'll name it that. It's also funny enough to be at least a temporary part of my sig. Speaking of signatures, thanks for mentioning me in yours, Snicket.

I'm with swans. I'll sit down in a big green armchair at the bookstore and read it a bit. I'll probably end up buying it, for ASOUE sakes, but if it's stuff I already deduced/know/obvious crap, I won't buy it.

Always good to be grammatically correct... especially when selling books... helps people understand and all that good stuff.

Yesterday I got The Science of Superheroes, another guide by Lois Gresh, mostly so I'd know what to expect from this one. The Science of Superheroes has some interesting and informative parts, but overall it's rather dissapointing. A Snicket reader's guide of the same caliber would be pretty poor, and under the additional pressure to compete with websites like Quidditch.com's allusion guide and Mike's FAQ. But for Snicket's sake I'll take a look at it somehow.

I imagine that such a guide covers basic knowme facts taht fans should know, and if they dont, they should be shot. Like "the Baudelaire's 3rd guardian was their Aunt Josephine, who wasnt really their aunt at all, but their..." so on, so on. the basics, as most book/series guides do. And notice its something that will come out before the movie, which means a lot of fans who wish not to read the actual books will read the guide to get the basics. It might sell big, which is why this guy is smart for releasing it before the film.

Indeed, people who want to seem knowledgeable but don't want to read the actual books will get this guide. This gives us another class of post-film newcomers, the others being "people who have only seen the film", "people who saw the film and then read the first books", and "people who read all the books and just happened to come here after the film release."

I dont mind "newbies" . they dont bother me because as long as they are willing to learn and not be stupid about everything, then Im alright with it. ^_^
Otherwise, they are annoying and should go to hell. ^.^
