I actually have the book now, so I'm bumping this thread. The back cover promises "The truth about hypnosis--and how to use it!" and "Real child inventors and their amazing inventions. And a quick thumb-through reveals some information on the symbolism of eye designs. I'll have to read it and tell you about it.

It might be worth checking out from the library, but maybe not worth buying. There's a lot of fairly silly and irrelevent stuff, but it's worth a look overall, as it has some interesting content. Maybe we'll get better guidebooks later.

Indeed, people who want to seem knowledgeable but don't want to read the actual books will get this guide. This gives us another class of post-film newcomers, the others being "people who have only seen the film", "people who saw the film and then read the first books", and "people who read all the books and just happened to come here after the film release." Actually, the book isn't a plot-and-character guide. Rather, it delves into the facts behind Snicketisms, such as the eye motif, the leeches, whether Count Olaf could REALLY marry Violet, etc. I basically see no point in writing books that outline all the events in other people's books - like, what for? I'm a HUGE fan of Lemony Snicket. The guy's a genius. I view my book as a tribute, almost, a fan's deep look at all things Snicket. Signed, chuck (the author)

I bought it. I read it. I hate it. Omg! That Lois Gresh person has no idea about Lemony Snicket! The book has some intresting parts but the rest of it is Blah! Oooooo! And I spent 12 bucks! I had a great time writing it. What can I say? You wanna tell me the parts you didn't like - then we can discuss all things Snicket. I was particularly interested in discovering whether Olaf could really marry Violet -- for real -- anywhere in the world. The Miserable Mill was an hilarious book, and I wanted to figure out how Sunny could possibly debark trees with baby teeth. I'd be happy to talk about the book here - what you liked, what you didn't like. Hopefully, some people here liked the book a lot and will chime in. Life is depressing enough without death threats and blah hooey comments. -the author

That guide has an interesting title "The Reader's Guide to Lemony Snicket: Eyeballs Leeches Hypnotism and Orphans the Truth Behind the Series". Shouldn't it have some commas in there somewhere? It's the first ever Lemony Snicket "reader's guide" that I know of, not counting websites like the renowned Unofficial Faq. This author has previously written guides about Star Trek and Dragonball Z, as well as a book about the science of superheroes. Those got mediocre-to-bad reviews, but maybe this Snicket guide will be worth checking out because, well, it's Snicket. And it has a great, if poorly punctuated, title. Actually, Superheroes is used in colleges and high schools around the world to teach science. It got GREAT reviews by comics and science experts. And there's even a special art exhibit in Denmark based on the book. As far as the Dragonball book, I received more than 1,500 fan letters from kids. Sure, I got the usual 15 death threats and lousy amazon reviews from morons who live to cause trouble. But overall, kids really loved that book. I was very happy with it. It would be a lot easier to be a chef, secretary, bank clerk, or computer programmer than a writer. But I get to read comics, watch anime, and delve into some of my favorite topics - such as Snicket - so I prefer to be a writer. As noted elsewhere on these boards, I'd be happy to talk about the book, about Snicket's series, etc. Yes, I'm really the miserable, lowdown, rotten, crumbling wreck of an author -- Signed, chuck Who's chuck? Here's a clue: www.sff.net/people/lgreshthe website of the miserable, lowdown, rotten, crumbling wreck of an author Now let's talk about Snicket. What do YOU think the eye motif means? How do you think the series will end? Do you think the parents are still alive? I can't wait to find out, frankly - I haven't a clue how Lemony plans to complete the story!!

Whoa, whoa, whoa-- uhm, hello Chuck. I'm not going to comment on everything you've said because I haven't actually read the book but I did glance at the book's chapter titles and I was rather disappointed. I understand wanting to defend your book, and you're completely welcome to do so but there is a modify button so instead of posting in the same thread over and over and over again just modify your post, and post everything in one post. Thanks. (: And pardon if I'm wrong but did you address such issues as the Baudelaire parents being alive etc? If you just want to discuss ASOUE then you're more than welcome to go join our other sections where we've talked in detail about such things. If want feedback on certain aspects of your book then I apoligize. Anyways, since you're here I will buy this book this weekend and inform you what I found disheartening, and what I would like to read in regards to a Lemony Snicket guide. I'd also keep in mind that most members here while are interested in the "Snicketisms" they are also REALLY interested in the plot/characters of the actual book. That's why we come here, and have probably over 5000 threads on the subject. I'm sure you will find the entire book to be a disheartening blob of misery. See ya.

*Also hopes that it's a Snicketism*
I'm a tad skeptical about Chuck being Lois Gresh, but I'm not ruling out the possibility.

I'm a tad skeptical about Chuck being Lois Gresh, but I'm not ruling out the possibility. I seriously considered posting a scathing rebuttal of doubt when it was posted (I noticed that post long before swans posted) but then thought that I'd better leave it up to the others. Incidentally, what sort of things are in the book?
