I should get an eye tattoo when I'm old enough. Not just because of aSoUE, but because I'm a nut who's obsessed with eyes. I actually have the tattoo, not that I'm trying to encourage anyone to get inked themselves. I had it done a little above my ankle as having a tattoo done on the ankle bone is an excrutiating experience that I wasn't willing to go through. Though it's not exactly canon, it's on the inside of my left ankle, where it was positioned in the first illustration of Olaf's leg in The Bad Beginning (as opposed to the outside of the ankle where it appears subsequently). It makes it a little less obvious.

The thought of having an eye on the palm of my hand appeals to me... Although perhaps tattooing is a little extreme. Or perhaps I could go the angsty self-harm mental illness route and try some home scarification. Fun for all the family.
The only picture I can recall where the eye tattoo was on the outside of the left ankle rather than the inside was in TVV.

In the TVV picture, I think the tattoo was just put there as a matter of convenience, because Jacques was tied up and the inside of his ankle would be hidden.
If you want an eye on the palm of your hand, I suggest you draw it there with a pen that doesn't smear easily, and if you trace over it every couple days you'll have it for a while. Don't cut yourself.

Don't cut yourself. With all my pens, then they'd probably slash my skin open anyway... Try drawing one on a nail with pen. If you press down pretty hard, it stays for ages. Nails are weird like that. I had the image of an eye on my thumbnail for about a week, and I didn't even have to go over it. Another note on canon eyes: In the Chapter Ten picture in TSS, then the tattoo is on Olaf's inside left ankle, but the eye is reversed and doesn't look like the insignia in terms of the "eyebrow" segment. What's that about?

Ever since I read TWW, I've wanted that tattoo on my left ankle, and I still plan on getting it although I often don't show my ankle(s). Once, I drew the "all-seeing" eye on the palm of my left hand. It looked REALLY good, so I may get that done.

Inspiration is a funny thing, don't you find? Sure is, although it turns out that David Blaine has a tattoo of an eye on his hand, or something, so when I drew an eye on my hand the other day everybody thought that I got the idea from him. So now I just draw eyes on my fingernails occasionally. I had eyes penned onto all the nails on my left hand at school today. My friends were variously perplexed/creeped out.

I creeped out my friend Thia today by telling here how I wanted to die. She seemed extremely concerned and scared for me.

I can't draw the VFD insignia eye version worth squat, but I can try. I might do that later today in green marker or something..... Maybe pen. (My mom is sooo gonna freak if she sees that! LOL.)
