I guess because we've already had a fire border for TPP, and a book with a title featuring fire-words would be weird if it didn't have a cover to go with it... And because it doesn't look like there'll be much opportunity to burn things down on the ocean.

I wonder what the border will actually be. We've already had two books with waves in the borders(TWW and TGG, although I think the UK TGG actually had mushrooms). Maybe piratical skulls-and-bones? Or, depending on how important the island is, some kind of fruit?

Sugar bowls, as somebody (me?) suggested for TPP? Something pirate-y? Insignias, even, although I wouldn't have thought V.F.D. would play as big a role in this book. Palm trees, if it's a desert island.
Edit: Some of these are probably too big or complex, though. It should really be simple. (And the U.K. TGG did indeed have a mushroom border.)

The title could just be The V. F. D. or anyone of those.

I might have suggested sugar bowls as a TPP border; I know I suggested a lot of hotel-related things and someone suggested VFD insignias. A pattern of VFD insignias would be a nice counterpart to TBB's border of eyes.

Flags, perhaps? Seashells, or something similarly ocean-related? Semi-random idea: Gravestones.

Coconuts, for the deserted island.

I honestly couldn't even begin to think what book 13 could possibly hold for us...but I do think that the title will not be nay that have bene guessed. I mean knowing Snicket or his publishers they would have checked all of the theories and told him all of the ones that have been guessed that way he can go...welp not gonna use that one!

I still quite like the sound of The Fiery Finale, although everybody else seems to have given up on that name. The Fiery Finale is probably too obvious, but as we can see from TPP, he's broken his pattern with the last word being a place. The rumor from H-C is that the publication date is tentatively Friday, October 13th, 2006. The web guy has also confirmed that they are already working on web development for Book 13. I expect to get very little in the way of details for Book 13. Whatever web site they come up with probably won't give away pages or pictures or covers or anything.

If they're working on the website now, though, it'll probably be fairly elaborate. Like an extreme version of The Nameless Novel--very pretty, but ultimately uninformative.
And Snicket's probably already decided the title, and probably decided it long ago. Even if we've guessed it correctly, he probably won't change it because of what we say.

Yes I was thinking sugarbowls for a borders aswell... As for the title I'm thinking something to do with end like the fearsome finale or maybe the disappointing something suggesting the book will have an unhappy ending which will also not go down well with the readers. I would also like a L title., like the Last L........and another random far-fetched guess 'The Terminal Tragedy', Terminal meaning the end but is also used a lot to suggest death

The Terminal Tragedy is a good guess. Another possibility along those lines is "The Terrible Termination", or "The Tragic Termination".
Or maybe it could be The Disappointing Denouement, although I rather doubt Snicket will reuse the hotel's name in his title.

I personally wouldn't use Terminal if I was Handler; I can't help but associate it with airport terminals (and Terminus with a bus terminus). Still, I suppose there are only so many words in the English language. It just would never carry the right connotations for me, so I'd be disappointed.
The Final Failure? The Definitive Distress? Nothing we suggest is really likely to be write, as we know so little - and yet so much. We don't really know what to aim for.
