I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were a small grain of truth in this e-mail. Wouldn't it be so like Handler to tell us the truth while we promptly ignore it because it's buried among lies?
I suspect that "The End" will be the final title of the book.

Ernest D, I suppose I'll add [/sarcasm] to your obviously truthful and truthfully obvious statement. [/sarcasm 2x] Fernald could have impersonated Beatrice up to a point in order to keep Lemony occupied. Sounds like something The Menaceers would cook up.

I suspect that "The End" will be the final title of the book. I doubt "the end" will be the final title. These are reasons why some couldn't be true: Yes, the Baudelaire siblings' difficult journey comes to a triumphant end.(define triumphant) Yes, their parents are very happy with their new home.(no, if they said parent it would be a different story. Actually it could be true if it is all training) Yes, Klaus Baudelaire does skip a grade and win a spelling bee.(probably not) Yes, Count Olaf gives each of the children a pony.(define pony) Yes, Beatrice is actually the hook-handed man.(um...no) Yes, they all live happily ever after, a phrase which here means "plus eternity times infinity!!"(no) Mr. Snicket also revealed that The Beatrice Letters, a collection of personal letters which will be published in September, is full of funny poems and doodles of unicorns.(not likely, but there could be pictures)

If this is all training then VFD (Lemony's side) is even more nefarious than I thought. It's one thing to claim to be a volunteer organisation that kidnaps its members and forces them to work in a dangerous profession for no pay. It's another thing to claim to be noble while dragging toddlers across hot, gravel-ridden pavements only to carve out their ankles with an ugly tattoo. It's even worse to have all those innocent people killed (I'm looking at Brother Dewey D, Monty, Josephine, et cetera) and a bunch of innocent orphans tortured for some elaborate training program that no one else had to go through.

I agree. The ideas of VFD being that cruel is just too nasty to end the story with. Even for Handler.

True, but they are all actors or at least good with disguises so it could all have been staged.

What if the Baudelaire's parents didn't die in a fire? What if they left their children alone, so they can test themselfs for V.F.D.

What if the Baudelaire's parents didn't die in a fire? What if they left their children alone, so they can test themselfs for V.F.D. That's still negligent, destructive, and morally corrupt. You don't test someone's swimming skills by throwing them off a plane into the Atlantic Ocean. You don't test someone's first aid skills by tearing off one of their arms and leaving them to fix it. VFD got along fine before they started schism-ing and if they start torturing potential members like this we might find ourselves with another schism. Plus it degrades all of the Baudelaire's accomplishments.

DOES ANYONE THINK THAT BOTH OF THE BAUD'S PARENTS ARE STILL ALIVE OR JUST ONE?

DOES ANYONE THINK THAT BOTH OF THE BAUD'S PARENTS ARE STILL ALIVE OR JUST ONE? Yeah! All seven of the Baudelaire parents are still alive (long story!) In fact, they're all desperately trying to find their children right now to give them candies and ponies... .... Ah, I'm just playing with you. They're charcoal.

Probably faded scanning. I wouldn't look much into it.
As for the spine colour, it's lighter then TBB, so is this just a new colour being used, or just another fade of the TBB one?

I would like to quickly state that this chart makes it obvious that olaf is NOT siblings with the sinister duo, look at the lines. they are associates, but not related by blood. EDIT: wait. if our theory that the straight black lines mean blood relations, why aren't fiona and ferald connected? I think Fiona and Fernald are not connected as family either because : They are step brother and sister. There wasn't a reference in that news paper article in TGG about Fernald being dead just escaped right?

In the UK TBB was red, which might imply that TE will be red over here, only TPP had a red spine too. Of course, it might just be a completely fake picture made in 5 minutes.
