i think violet would die if anyone. i think this because she is the oldest and she promised to protect her siblings from any harm or danger, specifically count olaf (and fire!). also she is brave and she wants her parents to be proud of her, even though they are dead.

If anyone dies I hope it is done well... ie I hope it is well written and creative. If the death is slow and heartfelt with all sorts of cliched things like, "I did it all for you.", "Please forgive me for never lending you my lucky socks..." or someone dieing in the arms of their beloved, I shall be highly disappointed. I hope Handler pulls a JK Rowling and leaves us wondering what happened etc. (What is behind that damned veil anyways?)

In what book did DH imply that one of the Baudelaires will die? I think that this is a stupid rumor because we have no proof.

whoa. i sure hope that none of the orphans die. it would be extremely even more tragic than anything that has happened yet. they have stuck together and tried so hard to get away from olafs clutches. lets just hope everything could turn out alright...hope for the best right??

If anyone dies I will smite Lemony Snicket and send violent birds after Daniel Handler.

True. The books are supposed to give you a slight feeling of doom and dread, not make you burst into tears. Furthermore, If Violet were killed, I would have to email Snicket/Handler an uncureable computer virus, and then I would form an angry mob of Violet fans and attack Handler's house. I personally think that, although it is possible Violet or Sunny will die, I think Klaus, because 1) He is almost always overlooked and 2) How many near-death or exclusively Klaus unfortunate events can YOU think of? I've always had that little, sneaking suspicion...... Olaf definately, and this seems a bit sad when you think about it. How would Esme feel? Or vise versa, if Olaf were the survivor? Plus, Sunny is pretty death-prone. She dances with death on a regular basis. Violet seems likely, because she promised to protect her siblings, but I don't think they will die. I'm standing by Klaus, like at the end of the books.

Dante and I feel that this thread belongs in Gloom Looms since the topic involves deaths that will happen in future books. This is now the place where you can discuss your ideas about who might die in books twelve and thirteen.

[HUGEST EDIT IN THE HISTORY OF ALL EDITS: I just picked up TWW about 5 minutes ago, and I noticed a (random?) sword hung atop the sign of Damocles Dock. Where was the tip of that sword pointing? Directly at Violet's head. Coincidence? I don't think so.] No, it's not a coincidence. Damocles is an obscure book/legend reference, and the Sword Of Damocles is related to that.

I remember hearing the tale of Damocles and the king, so yah. That's a literary referance. It's probably a coincedence to feeling as if the sword is a danger hanging directly over them. The Effect? An overall feeling of all hope being lost for the Baudelaires.

well this'll be my first post aside from my greeting, so here goes.
!!!*SPOILER*!!! but for harry potter 6, but i think we've all read that (all of us who care anyway)
I wouldn't be surprised if one of the orphans died, but i can't be sure which one. i mean there's points for each. but i think it's very possible Daniel Handler will "write one off", not only because it would go along with the dismal theme of the books but also because it isn't that rare. I mean after all JK Rowling killed off Sirius and Dumbledore, and the latter has to be one of the most loved characters (apart from harry, Hermione, and Ron of' coarse)

Sorry if I get a strike or whatever from bringing up an old post, but (a) I find this extremely interesting and (b) I was linked here from a moderator's post in a current thread so I have an excuse. I don't think anybody will die, because most readers wouldn't like it and Handler probably doesn't have the ability to do it well in his Snicket writing style (although he might). Even so, why would it be so bad if Violet died? This could bring a whole new theme to the series: perhaps that sometimes the only way to escape your horrible life is to die (Anna Karenina) or that sometimes the ultimate sacrifice must be made. I know that Handler is no Shakespeare, but knowing that Romeo and Juliet die at the end of the play definitely didn't ruin it for me. I suppose you just have to think of A Series of Unfortunate Events as an oddysey on which the children embark, and if the oddysey ends with the death of a character, it was still an adventure. So I won't be too disappointed if Violet dies, as long as it's well written and under one other condition: in the same chain of events, Olaf dies as well.
