Good Way: Anything that ties up all these loose ends about these characters especially Fiona.
Better Way: The orphans arrive at the island with Olaf and they are met by the pirates having some sort of Finnish Luau, they are all so overcome by the good-natured fun of the party that they decide to give up their rivalry for the evening. After the game they realize their innate talent for water polo and all decide to start a team together, they are rather successful and acquire glory and riches (enough to satisfy Olaf's greed and turn him into a just and moral human being). However, while playing in a tournament Olaf gets hit in the head with the ball and is put into a coma, Violet and Klaus feel sort of bad but get over it rather quickly, while Sunny feel tremendous grief and spends the rest of her life caring for Olaf. Violet moves on to use her inventive and creative skills to become a famous fashion designer and Klaus starts a successful (though rather overrated) boy band.

The more you talk about it the more I begin to think that there is no good way to end it.
but i think the worst ending would be that there's no ending and the story just stops and we never find out about vfd and all the stuff!

The ending is going to be very tricky unless Handler planned this all out because he has created more loose threads than if he cut up a sweater the size of Australia. He simply has to unravel V.F.D, Olaf and the fire and indicate the eventual fate of the Bauds. There is no way they will ever get that fortune. They don't need one. They are resourceful enough to do without. The other mysteries are expendable.

I wonder if the Baudelaire fortune even exists anymore. Could it have been in those bags Mrs Bass had stolen from MMoney Management and brought to the hotel? If so, it's most likely destroyed now. And even if the Baudelaires get their fortune in the end, they'll probably have to give it up to save themselves, somehow.
As for the other mysteries, I'd be rather annoyed at Handler, myself, if they weren't solved in some way, or if we didn't at least get some clues that helped clear them up.

Yeah, I don't see the Baudelaires being wealthy by the end of the series. There fortune is most definately gone/ will go. I can only see it happening if perhaps they made some selfish decision such as sacrifice a sibling or perhaps their supposedly alive mother will die to allow the baudelaires to have this wealthy future. Then the Baudelaires will have to live with the grief/knowledge that they commited such a selfish act just to save their fortune.

They wouldn't have the fortune by the end of the series anyway; they'd still have another three years to wait, unless the story jumps forward several years at some point, which I don't think it will. I think the series is too rooted in the present to look that far forward. Frankly, the fortune has barely ever mattered; it gave Olaf an original motive to go after the Baudelaires, but now it seems mostly to be pride, accident, revenge, or to destroy evidence against him that motivates his villainousness towards them. The Baudelaires have spent a lot of time looking back on happy times with their parents, but it's much rarer for them to look forward and think "Hey, we'll eventually have that fortune." I don't think them losing their fortune at the end of the series would have any emotional impact on the reader at all, since they've never had it and since it barely matters any more. (Note: This is my main point. The others are just back-up.)
For that matter, the Baudelaires probably couldn't get it anyway. They're still wanted criminals, and are unlikely to be acquitted. They can't exactly just walk into the bank... (although no doubt much evidence and many witnesses were destroyed in the Hotel Denouement fire). And Mr. Poe is probably dead, so that would present a significant obstacle to getting at it as well (and that's not counting the theories involving Mrs. Bass, although I think she's too minor a character for her actions to have a significant effect on the plot device of the fortune).
So basically, unless Handler's pulling one of his "totally forget about this and then it'll be vital later on" tricks, I'm unsure of whether the fortune will be of much importance to B13's ending. If it plays a role in the book at all, I imagine it would be from Olaf's perspective (ranting about how he'll finally be able to get his hands on it as soon as he comes up with some overcomplicated plan) rather than that of the Baudelaires. Although my opinion is completely tainted by the fact that, as a reader, I have never attached much importance to the fortune, whereas other readers are more fixated on it. I just don't care about it. I think making it important again could even detract from the story. Because the Baudelaires aren't the ones who care about money; that's Olaf. The orphans just want a safe and happy home, regardless of how wealthy or not they or their guardians might be. The fortune might not buy them happiness. Indeed, it's because of the fortune that they've experienced so much misery (although you could also use that as an argument that the fortune will need to be gotten rid of to shake Olaf off) (although, as I said, Olaf's motives have increased in variety more recently).
So yeah, that's my view. You have your views, which are different. Good on you. I'm sure we'll be satisfied with whatever Handler comes up with regardless of whether we're right or not.
---
It would be a pretty bad ending for none of the major mysteries to be solved - that is, those mysteries which actually seem like they may have solutions.
I think a good ending would be a relatively open-ended one. Probably why I disagree about the fortune's importance...

I, personally, think that above all others, the sugar bowl secret should be revealed. The others kind of pale in comparison.

Bad Way: The suagar bowl is found and it turns out just to be sugar. Good Way: The ending is not going to be good. Well at least be good for the Orphans. This series has got to end with an unfortunate event. Maybe everyone on the good side of the Schism will be happy, but not the Baudelaires.
I don't think it will have anything to do with the fortune. It stopped talking/being about the fortune books ago.

Bad Way: any ending that would leave me outraged, thinking 'wtf'
Good Way:
A good way would be any one involving a big twist, preferably a main character/s death, evil wins, everything is explained and then suddenly something happens to change everything.
Actually anything involving those above I would love to read, I like it better when good people die, much more dramatic. Also no parent to return they are dead and they have to get over it.

While no the fortune has not been talked about for awhile and sure the Baudelaires couldn't care less about it at the moment it's still important. Handler made these people rich for a reason, he could've created any number of reasons for Olaf to go after them(now that I think on it, he did..) but the fortune is still there and it wouldn't be if it were completely unimportant. Something may happen with it or it maybe finally be used for some good end. I doubt the villains will make off with it. As for Mr. Poe being dead, seeing as he's a character no one likes, he is therefore immortal in my mind(do I wish it was him shot instead of dewey? Yes.) So I doubt he's dead, he's bound to have escaped somehow. And mr. Poe talked about the fortune as soon as he saw the baudelaires so they, I presume, would still be able to get it based on him ranting about it in tgg. I want the sugarbowl secret revealed yes but the two things I want most are the story of Beatrice(which we'll get in part but not in full according to a much-mentioned interview) and to see the triplets again.

I really agree with your fortune comment Antenora, considering I first brought it to 667 Dark Avenue sometime in October . Of course, no one agreed with me then.

Wow, I haven't been on here for a while. Anyways:
Best End: No Bauds die. If some die its very unssymettrical and uneven. And no one would like it if they all died. It wouln't be sad, it would be dumb. The Quagmires are a must to appear. We've been expecting them for a long time so LS will have to satisfy us by the end at least. We should also find out about the Baud parents, as that is a main theme in the books. The bauds should end up living with someone somewhere bittersweetly and their adventures should END!
Worst End: Count Olaf becomes good or the Bauds become bad:( Or something where they figure they're equal (which actually seems likely, ugh!). If no secrets are revealed and we have to go with the Bauds simply continuing having unfortunate adventures here and there for the rest of their lives as they sail off into the sea. or whatever. I hope LS will focus on closing the story in the last book and will not introduce a whole new story with it, so that more things can be concluded and we'll be left hanging less.
oh and I actually think it would be good for the fortune to be included in the last book somehow. Even if its not a big thing. It would well connect book 1 to 13 (earlier books to later ones) , which LS seems to be trying VERY hard to do.

I want the Quagmires. I also want the adventures to end and not have lemony sending them off on a whole new journey of misfortune as the last book ends. If the bauds became evil that would just suck. He is trying hard to connect 1 to 13. As it is we'll be seeing Briny Beach again.

I believe I've said that the best possible ending would be a three-way sword fight between Olaf, Violet, and Lemony. The final showdown, if you will. Oh, also Beatrice is revealed to be the Baudelaire mother and is alive. I want to say that she marries Lemony but that would be too cliche.
Another best possible ending: Olaf is out of the picture and the Baudelaires are finally happy. I would probably begin to sob, if this were to happen though.
I might cry anyway, once everything is said and done.
As for the worst ending...I don't believe there can be a worst ending. I trust Mr. Handler too much. Even if nothing were revealed, if someone died, if nothing happened at all...I can't picture the series ending that way.
