The Bad Beginning Rare Edition notes(see here: asoue.proboards11.com/index.cgi?board=documents&action=display&thread=1106557594) make it pretty clear that it's Female Finnish Pirates, because of the context, and probably nothing else. Lemony's most likely talking about the same group in both the TBB quote and the annotation here: pp.116-117 A group of female Finnish pirates invented it back in the fifteenth century…
Tomorrow afternoon, the semiretired amateur geologist has promised to put me in touch with current members of the F.F.P...It's rather late in the series to introduce another "set of initials with more than one meaning" plot, anyway, having had VFD and JS. On an unrelated note, could you please remove that huge picture from your signature? Try to keep your sig smaller than 200 pixels tall, please.

That said, aside from the fact that the context given would make it really weird for F.F.P. to stand for anything but Female Finnish Pirates, it's not a bad theory given the presence of a certain fruit in B13. I think you're wrong, but you might have the circumstances right.

According to the fruit law (which may not even come into play in The End, but everyone else but me is apparently convinced that it will) it would more likely be "forbidden fruit pickers." I still think it's female finnish pirates. And I think they're good based on the fact that Lemonyw as indeed meeting with them.

Perhaps, like VFD, the initials stand for not one name, but many?
In that case, Forbidden Fruit Pickers may be but one compotent of FFP as a whole.

That's actually quite a good idea, and it might be interesting to see parallels between the ways the V.F.D. and the F.F.P. operate. Similarities and differences, that is. I'm glad you said that, PJ.

It just could be. I mean, the cover has little apples on it, so maybe, like PJ said, FFP, like VFD, has different little off-shooting sects and operations. Like Forbidden Fruit Pickers, Female Finnish Pirates, and Famous French Poets...who knows, eh?

I like the idea that FFP could mean more than one thing. But I wouldn't mind if it only stood for Female Finnish Pirates.

Yeah! Did you know that there was actually a group of women in history that formed a cult that believed that women were better than women? Also, for all you readers of the Da Vinci Code, the Priory of Scion believed in the divine goddess--so maybe the FFP is kind of like that--female reverance...in any case--that's cool with me, considering I'm a girl! lol. haha! *looks around--any way I can join...jk*

I always imagined it like a sort of Amazon-Pirate sect thing, with female warriors who are prejudiced against males for some reason.
Actually, considering that they're pirates, Forbidden Fruit Purloiners would be more fitting than "pickers".
Also, heh, I just realised the story of Original Sin seems to perfectly with this.

Indeed.
Biblical allusions get tedious sometimes, but I think Handler could manage to pull this off in a really cool manner.
It would be neat if FFP stood for multiple things.
