I don't normally read Newsweek, but it was sitting on the counter with something about good colleges, and it peaked my interest. Anyway, there's an article in it about The End. The Newsweek is dated August 28th so it's a new article. I found the article on the Newsweek website: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14322118/site/newsweek/. So there ya go!

Actually, the link worked fine for me. And while I have already linked it and people are already kinda discussing it, there's precedent for extra threads on possible plot details, and just comments on the article in general, so I'm letting it stand.
My opinion on the information in there: There's plenty of secondary characters hanging around whose fates have never looked too good. In fact, I can think of two characters who we've already speculated will die who it could be. And the comment about the end by Susan Rich sounds kind of obligatory, but we know the ending's going to be sort of ambiguous.

We could have plenty of characters die, the Quagmires are open, as are Fiona Widdershins and Fernald. With the 13 shocking secrets thing Kit is also a possibility. Heck, even the Baudelaires are potential victims though I highly doubt even one of them will die. Olaf's fair game too.

I just found an updated version of this article here: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14531386/site/newsweek/It has a bonus extra paragraph with a quote from Michael, who's a member of this site and who runs The Quiet World. As for Handler, he's hardly kicking back. He may write another series—but not if he is "attacked by scorpions tomorrow," he says. He's leaving his San Francisco home in October for a book tour to promote "The End" and the "The Complete Wreck," a boxed set of all 13 books. Until Oct. 13, fans like Michael George, 14, who runs the Snicket fan site thequietworld.com from his home in Malaysia, must make do with rereading the old books. George, who has read "The Bad Beginning" more than a dozen times, says he'd like the last book to end with "something not too happy, but not downright depressing either." Maybe just unfortunate.

I'll be fine as long as none of the Baudelaires or Quagmires die.

In another article, Handler hinted that the Incredibly Deadly Viper would be back (or some other reptile from the Reptile Room, but I think this one is the most likely). If he wanted to kill a character that would make Sunny sad but not destroy a main human character, this would be a good choice.
