That is interesting, but I'm sure that the whole "unfortunate" aspect was the reason they chose that date.

Yes, I agree. Still, I think it's rather ironic or coincidential, that the whole Garden of Eden thing and Friday and the 13th and Book 13 and all that. I don't think Satinism has got anything to do with Book the 13th at all... Yet. No, but it's not Handler's style (Damn on second thoughts, that adult book whatever it's called, Pronouns or Adverbs or The Basic Eight or Fantastic Four or Sexy Seven or whatever, but not to be aimed it kids I don't think.)

I don't think it's ironic or coincidental, just a brilliant marketing scheme from the publisher.
The link you gave (which doesn't work, by the way) is to the superstitions page of an urban legends site. People's ideas of Friday the 13th being unlucky or evil are all based on supersitions. You can find bad luck in anything if you look hard enough.

Oops sorry, I meant to press Modify rather than delete, but here is the original post:
At first, this may seem just obvious why it is released on Friday the Thirteenth. However, while browsing a certain site....
"Friday the 13th
Paraskevidekatriaphobics - people afflicted with a morbid, irrational fear of Friday the 13th
The sixth day of the week and the number 13 both have foreboding reputations said to date from ancient times. Their inevitable conjunction from one to three times a year denotes more misfortune than some can bear. Folklorists say it's probably the most widespread superstition in America (and no doubt in other parts of the world, as well).
Those who know about these things, inform us that Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden on a Friday, Noah's flood started on a Friday, and Christ was crucified on a Friday. Christians also noted that twelve witches plus one devil are present at Satanic ceremonies so Friday and 13 make a deadly combination."

A coincidence?
(Oops, looking again a pointless thread on second thoughts, but interesting nonetheless)
Gigi, I don't understand what you're saying, but I'm not sure you are the same to me - I'm saying I found this site that told me about Adam and Eve and Garden of Eden and they were explled from it on a Friday. This is interesting as the book is coming out on Friday the 13th, yes I see now it is a pointless topic, but a funny conicidence all the same. It is coincidental, not a marketing scheme. I can't see how it is from a random site not linked at all.

Well, your topic is about the Release Date being Friday the 13th, isn't it? I'm saying that the publishers purposely chose the date of Friday the 13th, not because of some link to the Garden of Eden (which I don't think is true and can't be proven), but because of people's general superstitious feelings about Friday the 13th. Sixteen seems to get what I'm talking about, right?

I thought this was thought up by DH. Didn't he say that he was surprised that the 13th book was arriving on time? Not only that but it only takes him 2-3 months to write each book so this could've been out 2-3 years ago

Not only that but it only takes him 2-3 months to write each book so this could've been out 2-3 years ago I believe that it takes some six months to go through the actual publication process, though. I can't remember where I heard that figure, but Handler apparently finished the book in mid-March, so early October is about right. And I do think it's an interesting coincidence that Adam and Eve were supposedly expelled from Eden on a Friday - not something I'd heard before - but you're right, this doesn't seem to be going anywhere. If anyone really desperately wants to say something about this, PM me or SnicketFires or Gigi (whoever's most appropriate at the time) and we might unlock it. Locked.
