im am glad that alot more people are interested in this series and i was sorta disapointed on a way but i enjoyed alot... i think lemony left the big mystery so later on he can write a new book to fill that whole and maybe focus on quigly and violet;s relationship and how they will continue life and explain things to mr.poe. once again glad all u newcomers are interested in the series!!!!!

Haha, yes. And at that point I was still half-hoping they would! I'm not a very noble person, I suppose.

I have a question: Count Olaf died before Kit Snicket died, but which person have fired the harpoon-gun that killed him?
I hope that you can answer my question! CaptainWiddershins

Ishmael fired the harpoon gun that killed Count Olaf, despite having renounced violence during the schism.

The idea that he'd be able to survive over an hour after removing it from the wound when he was also poisoned is probably an example of suspended reality.

Maybe the wound wasn't very bad, but he was nonetheless bleeding to death? It's unclear what everyone else was doing in that hour.

I got the impression they left Olaf where he was during the meeting, since he was no longer a threat.
Possibly the speed of the harpoon gun was slowed by the diving helmet; it clearly went straight through the glass on both sides, but I suppose it depends how far the mycelium was waxing when the helmet broke.

Question : The End the author said that Quagmire's situation was a bit damper than the Baudelaires after the Kit washed castaways. Does that mean Quagmires were alive at Great Unknown? Or it just simply meant that they're dead?

I think that's an error on Handler's behalf - he doesn't mean to give anything away about the situation that the Quagmires, Hector and, for want of a better collective term, crew of the Queequeg were in, but forgot that at this moment in time they were already in the situation.

I agree with that interpretation. We're clearly meant to conclude the book with the Quagmires' situation ambiguous, and I suspect Handler was confusing the chronology of revelation with the chronology of the incidents themselves. But fortunately (and indeed on the other hand), I don't think saying that they were in circumstances as dark but rather damper than the Baudelaires identifies them as alive or dead, so it's not necessary to tussle with the canon in this instance.

Question ..
why was kit floating to the island o raft of books?

As explained in The End, the destruction of the self-sustaining mobile home and the Queequeg left her, Hector, Captain Widdershins, Fernald, Fiona, and the Quagmires stranded. In such circumstances she'd been trained to construct a raft out of the most important items available, which in her case were books, so she did. While the rest of the castaways chose to take their chances with the approaching Great Unknown, Kit fled instead, and ended up washed up on the shores of the island.

She'd made it from the wreckage of the Queequeg and hot air mobile home to quickly escape from the Great Unknown, but passed out during the storm; according to several people, 'everything washes up here eventually', suggesting that the coastal shelf is so abnormally large that it's extremely common for people to wash up there.

I suspect it's due to the peculiarities of ocean currents, myself.
