Their laughs were cut short as hands covered their mouths. BSam looked at the person holding Trikip and Trikip looked at the person holding BSam. In their horror they glanced at each other, more confused than ever. IT'S SOMEONE WE KNOW. . . . or not.

Now you've done it, Shelly. You're now obligated to start a 667 Deadly Sins theory thread.

Wow, Sixteen! This was the first thing that I checked when I came on 667 after not going on 667 for a long time. I was not disappointed, that's for sure! Can't wait for the next chapter!

Chapter 7
Mijahu sat with his back against a tree trunk. He looked across to where Tragedy was sitting on the other side of the clearing. The two stared at each other silently for a while. They hadn’t said much since BSam and Trikip had been captured the previous day. There wasn’t much they could have said. After all, their disappearance wasn’t that surprising. It had already happened to everyone else in the camp. Now, though, Mijahu felt like he knew what was going on. It all made perfect sense. Tragedy was the one who was orchestrating this whole experience. He had keys to their apartments, so it made sense that he could have taken them in the night and brought them to UE. And it was Tragedy that had been making most of the decisions around here. Come to think of it, Mijahu couldn’t remember seeing him around during any of the kidnappings. He remembered that Tragedy had conveniently needed to use the toilet right about the time they noticed BSam and Trikip were missing. That settled it. He needed to get away from this maniac.
Mijahu waited until Tragedy needed to excuse himself again before fervently packing his bag. He was almost ready to leave when he heard footsteps behind him. “What do you think you’re doing?” Tragedy asked. Mijahu turned around cautiously. “I know everything,” he hissed. “I know that you’ve been behind this from the beginning. I don’t know why you did it – it’s probably giving you some perverse pleasure – but I’m not putting up with it any more.” Tragedy raised his eyebrows and put his hands up. “Calm down, Mijahu,” he said. “We’ve been under a lot of stress lately, but you know I’m not like that. I’m on your side. We need to stick together.” “Ha! Nice try,” Mijahu scoffed, “but I can see straight through you. Goodbye, Tragedy.” He turned on his heel and walked briskly into the forest. Tragedy stood dumbfounded in the clearing, alone.
Mijahu made his way back in the direction they had come, eventually making it to the lake after many rest stops. He looked around nervously as he filled a bottle with water. He realised that he had no idea what to do once he got here. He hadn’t thought this far ahead. Well at least he had made it away from the kidnapper. After he had eaten and drunk to his satisfaction he lay down and went to sleep.
The next morning Mijahu woke to see the sun rising from behind the large hill at the edge of UE. Of course, he thought, that’s where I need to go next. That would be a vantage point from which he could spy on Tragedy. He got up and walked towards the ruins to gather some final resources. While rummaging through the drawers of one building, he came across a small metal box. He cracked it open against the edge of a table. Inside was a singed letter. Mijahu didn’t normally read other people’s mail but this intrigued him.
To whom it may concern, I write this letter with a heavy heart and a shortness of breath. A new beginning awaits us all as we prepare to leave our home behind. Yes, we once were a thriving community of interesting character and determined will, but now things have changed. People have left us in our time of need and we can no longer sustain ourselves out here in the open. We need to find new refuge. All hope is not lost, however. I have corresponded with some well-read, like-minded citizens in the city who have expressed unusual interest in UE and have been enthusiastic about arranging a rendezvous. I can only hope that we make it to the city unharmed. We are far from other settlements and will not have many opportunities to rest along the way. Alas, to the point: I have a message for you, the reader. I expect you are an historian or anthropologist of some kind. It is unlikely that you have chosen to set up camp here; our soils have grown infertile and the wildlife has fled. But remember this, reader. UE was not always a horrid wasteland. We lived happily here for many years and we leave with resignation. We will miss this place for it was our home. Now, to the next big adventure! Yours, The President of UE.
Mijahu put the letter down and considered what he had just read. Things might have made more sense if the room he was standing in hadn’t been burnt to the ground. He scratched his head and made his way back outside.
Standing at the base of the hill, Mijahu looked up… and up. And up. He remembered the first time he tried to climb the hill that he hadn’t even made it halfway. The second time they climbed the hill, the group was delayed because he needed to stop frequently. But this time he was instilled with a new determination. It’s me against him, he thought. Tragedy could be hot on his heels but he wouldn’t know it until he got to the peak. With this motivation, he pushed on. More than once he cried out in pain. He hadn’t done this much exercise in years. The muscles in his legs burned and his lungs were exhausted from ceaseless panting. He wanted to give up, give in to his sloth-like nature but he knew that he couldn’t. This was too important. After what seemed an eternity, the ground levelled off. He was at the top. With a colossal sigh, he flopped onto the grass. “I made it!” he screamed in joy. He felt light-headed and so he dismissed the noises as hallucinations at first. It was only when they got louder that he really took notice. He thought it was Tragedy climbing up behind him, ready to finish him off, but then he heard more sounds from the opposite side of the hill. Whatever it was, it was coming from two different directions. As if this wasn’t unsettling enough for the 667er, he heard even more noises approaching from a third point. “This is it,” he said aloud, “isn’t it? I was wrong about Tragedy. He was innocent.” “Well, yes,” the first person said as they reached the peak, “you were wrong about him.” “But innocent is a relative word,” the second person said, joining them. “None of that matters now, though,” the third person said. “Do you understand?” Mijahu looked at the three figures surrounding him and nodded. “Yeah,” he said quietly. “I think I do.”

Please finish it soon. Not because I want it to be over, but because I want to know what's going on.

What an electrifying chapter! I'm anxious to learn who the "three figures" are, though something tells me their identities won't be what we expect.

I'm confused. Like everyone, I'd like to know what's going on. It's extremely rare when this happens to a reader - the writer wielding a giant mace and telling the reader they don't know everything. The only equivalent I can think of is the Harry Potter series - at least before the final book was out. I wish I possessed even a tiny bit of that skill. Well done.
