Not a huge fan of the cover. But I guess that might be because I loved Helquist's crisp drawing so much. Same for me. The previous Victorian Gothic style covers of ASOUE are more appealing.

Terry Craig, I played with your version a little, mostly because I felt like the ATWQ plate thing looked too much like a header to not be one: thoughts?

That looks pretty good but "Lemony Snicket" would probably look better at the bottom.
The title plate thing could also be a footer, in which case "Lemony Snicket" would be up the top.

I think you hit the nail on the head with 1, it looks a lot more ordered and I'm glad there's no ugly orange title plate.

I like the layout of title plate and author on the first one; it adds perfect focus to the center images.

The first one is definitely the best. It looks a lot more ordered than the official cover. And like Brunch, I'm glad there's no ugly orange title plate with LS's name in chunky cartoon letters.

S, I like your first one best. The absence of the orange makes it loads better. The cliff being fallen off is my favourite of the pictures (how cheerful I am), so I like the fact that it's quite prominent there. But, in general terms, what I would like best is... Helquist back. *Sighs quietly*

I thought I preferred the light yellow to the brown - it's the color of the little house windows in the falling-man picture, and so I think it ties in better and seems less random than the let's-be-real-pretty-ugly paper bag brown.
But now the brown is maybe starting to grow on me...?

The colouring and style reminds me of a mash-up of Mad Men and this children's book I used to own when I was younger.

The light yellow is nice, also, in terms of color scheme. What would people think of the color if the lettering weren't distorted, like this? Or a plain white?

I think it looks better in a darker yellow. The white could work, but then it would probably have to be through the middle of the cover instead.

Another colour the plate could be is grey, to match the pictures.

But, in general terms, what I would like best is... Helquist back. *Sighs quietly* I don't want to be persnickety and pre-empt Seth's work, but... I was looking at some of Helquist's recent art on his website a few days ago, and he has gotten so much better since we last saw his work in ASoUE. We haven't just lost Helquist's past, but his future, too. Best of luck to Seth and the Hachette cover arrangers; they have a hard act to follow. I'm looking forward to exploring the book and seeing how things work out in the final version, though - the back cover, too, is a pretty enticing prospect.
