I actually kept thinking about ATWQ having 4 volumes, and secondly, ASoUE starting out with four books, when I saw that DH is turning 44. Maybe this could be used as inspiration for a project, like a list with (44?) things that are related to the number 4, and it being a conspiracy á la "The 23 Enigma." Things in the list could include the 4 elements, seasons of the year, divisions of day, cardinal directions, number of movements in a symphony, suits of playing cards, 4 cardinal virtues, and then later things like the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse, 4 corners of the earth, the fourth letter in the alphabet being "D" and four letters after that "H", etc. I'm just spitballing, but it may have potential. I like this idea, though i'm confused about the elements? 92 naturally occur on earth. He means the 4 elements of Earth, Wind, Fire and Water. Though technically there are 5 if you count Ether

I just meant the elements of alchemy or the archetype elements in classic thought (f.ex. Buddhism), which are Earth, Water, Wind and Fire. We don't have to include that though, there are many others of these facts. We could end saying something like "the words hoax, jive and bunk have exactly 4 words."
I like all of the other ideas proposed so far in this thread as well.

The Snicktionary: A compilation of forty-four unique, semi-obscure words, like Snicket's "bombinating." Each submission could be formatted like a dictionary entry, with the occasional accompanying illustration, and each entry would use the word in a sentence in an ATWQ/Birthday themed way. Bonus if the sentences or words are somehow ordered to form a "story" (in the same spirit as the questions last year formed a "story" - that is, they related to one another and showed some form of progression without necessarily being a narrative). Bam. This is absolutely my favourite idea.

Fours are a motif that can probably be worked into other ideas as well...
The last couple of years' projects have been pretty great, I agree, but getting the art done in time has often taken us right down to the wire, and applying a one-picture-per-entry rule will only require us to do more work every year, so I think that, whatever we go with, we're likely to take a less stringent approach to art than in past years.

44 reasons not to read ATWQ?
Or maybe we could pick 44 DH/Snicket quotes (I'm assuming there are that many, possibly many more) and write a little one-paragraph story to go along with each- that relates to the quote, of course. This reminds me a little of what we did for 2012 but I think it could work.
I really like Sherry Ann's and Terry's ideas, though.

My idea: A forty-four line poem, akin to the V.F.D. stanzas sent with the Snicketmails to promote ?1. A line or couplet to be posted by each person, arranged into eleven stanzas of four lines each, requiring eleven illustrations.

To clarify, my suggestion, like most of the others submitted so far, does not require anyone to have read ATWQ but simply to know what a poem is (and possibly to have looked at up to one example picture). I think we're all aware of the diversity of the forum community and its interests at this point. Whatever we settle on, I doubt there will be much difficulty to be had for people bringing their own personal fascinations to the project.
