On page 150-151, there is a map of different places (Lake Lachrymose, Briny Beach, Dr. Montgomery's house, etc) In the northeast corner, there are some trees and the phrase "To the Hinderlands" In the TCC, the carnival takes place in the Hinderlands. In the end, it doesn't seem they are along in the caravan an extremely long time before they reach the Mountains is TSS. The only other mountains are in the Southwest corner of the map, so I assdumed the Mortmain (sp?) Mountains are off this map. It also states that during False Spring the ice breaks and they float down the Grim River-pictured on the map. This River is simply floating through flat land making a path between Lake Lachrymose and the body of water where the Briny Beach is located. This map is so confusing! I think this is some sort of plot hole?

Actually, the river leading down from the Mortmains was Stricken Stream.
I also think that the forest in that corner is the Finite Forest, and Paltryville lies just beyond it. The Mortmain Mountains are likewise off the map to the north. I have drawn a more "complete" map of ASoUEland that I'll scan and upload in a few minutes.

Oh sorry about the wrong name for the river, heh. It does ony seem to mention the names of things off of the first few books. Though it specifically mentions the Hinderlands in teh 9th books... Oh well... I can't wait to see the map

That is a rocking map. Now I want to do one. And I can't see any errors, with the possible exception of a slight lack of labelling in places, but some of the locations (e.g. the horseradish factory) would be very small. And I think Lake Lachrymose should have a bigger outlet to the sea than the Grim River, because Widdershins and the Queequeg patrolled Lake Lachrymose for years, yet now they're in the ocean. I also reckon that the Village of Fowl Devotees should be slightly more to the south-east. Edit: My map. I've added colours to show what stuff is. Locations are red, caves/grottoes are dark blue, water is light blue, green is forest, and dotted grey is mysterious mist.

Thanks, your map is cool as well.
Perhaps there's a river we don't know about connecting Lake Lachrymose more directly to the sea, because the Grim River sounds pretty unnavigable, what with all that mud.
(The location of Prufrock Prep, incidentally, is more or less rampant speculation.)

(The location of Prufrock Prep, incidentally, is more or less rampant speculation.) I knew there was somewhere I'd forgotten... And a lot of it is rampant speculation, because there's a lot of compass-point inconsistency in the books. Edit: And allow me to praise yours some more, Antenora - a lot of the locations of the locations (that sounded so stupid) were completely inspired by your map.

Thanks again *bows*.
Also, I cleaned up my map a bit, added a label to Mount Fraught, and added a compass-rose thing that looks like an eye. The new version is on the same URL as before, as will be any subsequent revised versions.

Nice maps, both of you. However, wouldn't Heimlich Hospital and Last Chance General Store be farther apart? They were riding in a van, and they were in there for awhile, singing that ridiculus song. I think the hospital and general store are further apart than VFD (villiage) and the general store. The Baudelaires walked all night and into the morning to the store.

Antenora, your map is good, but I think the placement of the mortmain mountains in conjuction with that of the carnival, the hospital and the sea is rather far away. And I do believe that the river went past the carnival, cos they saw all those burnt papers. Or where those from the VFD headquarters? I dunno. Meh. FFWF, your map is also good. Perhaps one could scan the map, and then add the missing parts. Meh, i'd do it, but I can't draw to save my life (information which my enemies can never know, so that they won't put me in such a position)

And I do believe that the river went past the carnival, cos they saw all those burnt papers. I think they saw it from a distance. And it wasn't the carnival, now that I think about it, it was just the Hinterlands, across which the fire had apparently spread.

Thanks for that. So anyone for my suggestion to actually continue the original map? Scanner anyone?

Thanks for that. So anyone for my suggestion to actually continue the original map? Scanner anyone? Yeah, but not a very good one, it's kinda dirty. Plus when I scan stuff in then my computer magically makes it four times bigger for no reason.
