Because religion is sacred. They're not even religious, but it's sacred.

I don't know why a preist would have the answer Jerome. Theres things christians don't know. I beleive in God but I'm not going to start telling J how he's always been around because I don't know. I don't understand everything but if you truly beleive then you have to trust that God knows the answers and just have faith. I can definitley see why some people don't beleive in God, it's such shaky ground to put your faith in.

I see... So, what turned you to atheism? I've told you several different reasons on several different occasions.

Not to get on topic mind you...
But: I have to wonder...to all the thinking minds that suggest that "under God" represents all gods...what if it said "Under Goddess"?
Would you be so quick to champion it's merit, let alone it's constitutionality?

It all depends on how you look at it actually... "And Ruth said, 'Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God". (Ruth 1:16) Although used in heterosexual marriage ceremonies for years, it was a vow between two women. When their husbands died in battle, Ruth made this vow to Naomi, her mother-in-law. Ruth marries Boaz, a close relative, and redeems Naomi's place in her own family, also bearing a child for Naomi. Did Ruth and Naomi have a lesbian relationship? There's no way to know, but it is clear the two women had a lifelong, passionate, committed relationship celebrated in Scripture. So I can at least imply it.

Woah! I missed a lot... Ruth was definitely not a lesbian... She was one of God's followers, wasn't she?
