But really, Goths are nothing to be afraid of. The goths at my school are just people who find death, or dark things interesting. Exactly. I wouldn't class Linkin Park as goth-rock at all. Goth music, I would class as Marilyn Manson or NIN.

There's Iron Chef merchandise? That's awesome. Anyway, I've never been to Hot Topic (never heard it mentionned before until this site), so I can't say much about that. The ONLY reason I go to Hot Topic (once a year, at that!) is to buy things for Sarah and spend money on Nintendo clothes. People shoplift from it all the time because it's all overpriced--it has no scanner things near the entrance that can tell if you're carrying stuff from the store. My friends A*manda and Sarah steal anything they want from there, it's insane. Plus, the one at my mall is too small, it gives me claustrophobia. The entire store makes me feel crawly. I adore darkness and dark things myself, mm-hmm. I love dark symphonic metal, organ rock, visual kei, and gothic lolita fashion (only on other people, though). I just can't stand people like these, which is what makes Cliff Yablonski a godsend to me. All hail Something Awful. If you didn't live in Canada we'd have to hang out sometime. I wish I could travel mooore. Also, there's a ton of Iron Chef merchandise at this store called Le Gourmet Chef--there's the official book which I want SO BADLY UNF UNF, three kinds of shirts (grey Gourmet Academy one, black with red text on the back that lists all the main ingredients used in the battles, and a black one that shows Iron Chefs Chinese, Japanese and French that says "ARISE, IRON CHEFS!" on it), a toque noire, and a regular baseball cap. Takeshi Kaga's an actor on Japanese Broadway, did you know that? He was in Jekyll and Hyde. As Jekyll and Hyde. <333333

I know... it's weird. They get all these actors in to judge, too, and they all seem to know so much about cooking. It's crazy.
"ARISE IRON CHEFS!"?? That's beyond cool.
I guess the Hot Topic equivalent here would be Schmatta... they do custom t-shirt printing, have designs with old school bands, nintendo/pack man things, smurfs, puerheroes (I have a Spiderman shirt) sell studded belts, wristcuffs, do piercings and all that. But it's not like a mainstream store... Just an independant one with lots of excessively pierced employees. ;D But they're not really a "gothic" store...

Ah, I see. But Hot Topic is a chain, and is actually owned by The Gap. Schmatta sounds pretty cool, though--I really want a place near to me that prints custom T-shirts. ;o; *is a sad Lunae*

The goths at my school are just people who find death, or dark things interesting. Most of them are interested in issues, are intelligent people and hang out with the "hippie" type people. That's how the people at my lunch table (mentioned in my first post) were... they liked to debate politics a lot and stuff like that. And just about any of them who we're goths were hippies. I got mad at someone one day, because he said, "You know that one girl who dresses like a freak?", referring to someone who was a goth. I wanted to punch him. Just because someone likes a different style than you doesn't make them a freak... grr... I would also like to clarify, I am not anti-Hot Topic (I do shop there... heck, even my mom shops there...). I just don't like people who think they're goth just because they shop there. Going there doesn't make you goth, and not going there doesn't make you not a goth. I still think that they're taking the styles of those who are 'rebellious' and selling them back to them, so they think they're 'different,' but that's what most clothing companies do: see what people are wearing, then make that thing so they can make money off it.

Anything owned by the Gap is a waste of time.

Anything owned by the Gap is a waste of time. Whoa. That's harsh. I think Hot Topic is good for a couple things. One is all the neat gag and party gifts you can get there. (Inflatable sheep, anyone?) Another is Happy Bunny merchandise. Happy Bunny Rules! As far as what Goth means, it actually refers to a few things. One, Gothic architecture, two a style of writing (ever heard of Anne Radcliffe The Mysteries of Uldopho? a classic example of a boring book) three, what ya'll mean here, uncouth, medieval, barbarous. Goths don't bother me. I could pass for Goth, I have lots of tattoos and a few piercings and a lot of black clothes...but I'm not. I like heavy metal but I also think Tschaikovsky was a genius. Also, I'm always laughing about something. I don't know any happy Goth people.

This is my style of goth: elegant gothic lolita. "Elegant Gothic Lolita Kyshah Hell An elegant Gothic Lolita, EGL or Gothic Lolita for short, is a Japanese teen or young adult who dresses in amazingly elaborate Gothic looking babydoll costumes. On the weekends these women walk the streets of Tokyo and Osaka and fill Yoyogi Park and Harajuku neighborhood where they pose for tourist’s pictures and sit around looking pretty. They are beautiful, glamorous, doll-like manifestations of their favorite Visual Rock stars. This subculture’s physical look began around the fall of 1999 as a sort of French Maid meets Alice in Wonderland style and has expanded gradually to encompass many nuances in a Victorian Gothic look. Make no mistake – these women want nothing to do with our Western Gothic ways. They do not listen to our music and they are not Gothic in the American and European sense. (Don’t worry there are Japanese Goths but they are just not a prominent mainstream subculture.) The Lolita’s music of choice, for the visuals and sometimes the sounds, is a version of Heavy Metal with gothic hints. Visual Kei or Visual Rock is a form of Japanese pop rock music where the musicians dress in elaborate costumes. Anything from a twinge of glam to full blown female impersonation can be called Visual Rock." THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' BOUT Taken from Morbid Outlook via Google. Also, for anyone interested, you HAVE TO check out the Gothic and Lolita Bibles.

Madame Luna, what's your opinion on Elegant Gothic Aristocrat?

I like that kind of 'AristoGothic'. Once in a while when I feel like I wear a black suit, a black shirt w/frech cuffs (w/cufflinks of course!) and a silver tie. Just add my aviator sunglasses and a strange smile, and I start scaring children on the streets.

Holy shee~ot, Elegant Gothic Aristocrat exists? O_________O *Google* UnF UnF UnF. Though I really wished it would have lived up to my expectations. I expected much more frou-frou and maybe some other colors besides black and white. Maybe some dark green or blue or red would be nice. A dark green and black suit with white lace and a white cravat. That'd be AWESOME.

Today I was shopping and there were tonns of goths around! I think they're populating! lol. No really, personally I don't agree with some goths because I guess it's just what I've been brought up with. You know, the people I hang with think blacks a gross colour and that. I've never talked to a goth though, but I imagine they'd be really depressed and have scars all up their arms from where they've tried to slit their wrists. Is it trues they worship the devil? I don't believe that. I think that that's just some stupid rumour. But I guess some are nice, like you's have said, some people just like the fashion. I wonder what it'd be like to go gothic or emo for a day? Just the style part though. lol

Exactly. I wouldn't class Linkin Park as goth-rock at all. Goth music, I would class as Marilyn Manson or NIN. or not they both have large numbers of goths in their fan base, but manson is too posuery to be goth himself...he's close tho... the goths i know make fun of the "goths" (ie, the equivelant of hot-topic goths) and Mansonites... which aren't quite goths...there are diferences... nine inch nails is more industrial, i think, than goth... (hooray for trent) linken park? *shakes head* nu-metal... gothic music...The Cure... Type O Negative are 'gothadelic' they call themselves... i can't think of others right now... and i'm an anti-hot topic person...i guess... hot topic clothes do not maketh the goth... they can help at times...but one should buy black salsa from there and then call oneself goth... we don't have a hot-topic in tassie, i have no idea about the rest of australia, but i've seen enough to know...

Madam Luna: Yeah, it's not really my bag either. Too flat and somber.
Embah: What's wrong with black? It goes with alot of other colors and is slimming. I try to buy black clothing whenever possible because I know it won't clash with my hair when I change the color.
Don't imagine. When you imagine how a person would be, you can be wrong. The cutting and the devil worshiping is a sterotype, some do it but some not everyone.
