Now that I have your attention... The following Publisher's Weekly article details what Handler's up to at the moment, including a few things I'm sure some of us have been awaiting updates on. Lemony Snicket ReduxThe main points as far as I'm concerned: Handler plans a new series as Lemony Snicket: "He has another series idea (still under wraps) simmering..." "And he has an idea for a new series for young readers which, like all his children's books, will carry the Lemony Snicket nom de plume." We have a tentative cover for The Composer is Dead: The pirate novel is nearly done: "As for other projects, Handler says he is close to finishing a novel for adults (“there is a secret, tentative title,” he allows, but won't say anything more than it's about pirates)..." And a few other points I find interesting: Handler still has ideas for aSoUE, but the series is over: "“Every so often I instinctively jot down notes about more bad things happening to them before I remember, 'Oh, that series is over.' It's disorienting.”" Handler considers his The Lump of Coal and The Composer is Dead to be "interim" books to keep the Snicket persona alive. Discuss.

"If it were a pregnancy, I wouldn't yet be talking about it, that's how delicate and fetal it is." Hehe.
This is awesome news - thanks, Dante. I'm so excited for the pirate novel. I'd rather Handler do more individual books than embark on another children's series, but really anything is acceptable so long as it's not nothing.
I only wish I could attend one of these more individualized tour stops.

OMG THANKS DAN-TE.
I asked him about the pirate novel. He said it's very long right now, and becoming longer - he says his books always start out that way, and then they get shortened when he edits them.
He suggested that novelists who write books that are longer than 250 pages should legally have to obtain a license in order to publish them.

Incredible. If it's about what happens after The End: I'll jump for joy. If it's a Quagmire series: I'll explode with joy. If it's a V.F.D. series: I'll cause a chain reaction which will cause the universe to implode around me in joy.
;D

What if it's completely unrelated to A Series of Unfortunate Events and the only similarity is in the written style? That's what I'd guess was most likely. But it would be a bit odd, since Lemony Snicket is a character in the ASOUE universe, so you might expect that any book by him should have something to do with that universe. (I suppose, though, you could think of it as a work of fiction which Lemony Snicket, the character, has written.)

At least the author misses the Baudelaires like most fans. This is exciting. I hope a new series will come.

There's bound to be more in the ASOUE universe than just the Baudelaires and the people they encountered. A universe is a fairly large thing.
