Never before have I seen the cover of this seemingly unreleased book. I was most surprised!!! www.timeout.co.nz/product/16061-MiserableMillorHypnotism-ASeriesofUnfortunateEvents4-9780061146329Has anybody else seen it before? I may contact Mr Helquist and inquire about how much artwork he actually did for these paperbacks- specifically if he did any interior illustrations for this fourth one and if he can provide a larger image of the cover. EDIT: And there I go presuming it wasn't even released- does anybody know if it was?

Good grief! No, that's the first time I've ever seen the cover to Hypnotism! I was fairly sure it had been completed, as there were indications that Helquist was working on a new TEE at one point, and of course Michael Kupperman had The Spoily Brats drawn nearly up to the end, but I never knew that any material from the unreleased paperbacks ever got online! I thought we only had the titles of the fourth and fifth books. It's so frustrating to know that there's all this unreleased content that we never got our hands on! And it was unreleased - believe me, we were on tenterhooks. We'd have known if it came out. I'm not surprised that it's a New Zealand website that got there first - from what I've been seeing with ATWQ recently, online retailers in Australia and New Zealand do seem to get and put cover material up very early, often when it's only in the draft stages. This makes me wonder if there's art for Kidnapping! out there, or at least a bigger version of that Hypnotism! cover. Google Image Search doesn't seem to turn anything up, though... We really need to find a way to get into contact with Brett Helquist and ask if there's any way we might ever see his unreleased material.

I have emailed Brett Helquist (I have his contact from past communication regarding purchasing prints) and asked if he has a larger digital image of this cover, if he has interior illustraitons available and if he worked on books following this one (in paperback). He's always responded well when I've contacted him in the past, so hopefully this may bring about some interesting material!

Great, Pevalwen! I was just looking into this myself, but I'll put my own enquiries on hold in case you're fortunate enough to get a positive answer. Helquist's recently started selling prints of his ASoUE material (including work from the paperbacks), so I would hope that the unreleased stuff is well within his rights as well. It would be such a terrible shame for the public to never see them.

Indeed, I got my parents to get me that very print that you linked for Christmas last year! The composition is lovely. I am most excited to see what becomes of this...

Wow that is great; it actually exists! I remember searching for it years ago; no cover was ever shown.
Shame these paper backs stopped.

It is such a shame. I loved seeing the earliest books with new illustrations, as Helquist had developed since 1999. Especially the new covers- I loved how they had different clothing in each new place, rather than the traditional outfits.

Not yet- I'm a big fan of his so keep up-to-date with his online activity. I am confident that he will respond, although I don't think that he uses the internet daily. There will be a new blog post and some tweets one day and then nothing for a while afterwards, it seems. We'll see!

It says it came out February 2008; surely there's the chance that the webpage itself has been there since before its publication was cancelled, and the store just never bothered to take it down?

Listings for unreleased books never get taken down. Hypnotism! and Kidnapping! are still listed all over the place, but they never came out, and they probably never will. I tried ordering a book from Amazon that I knew to be unreleased once; they kept on sending me e-mails about how they were having trouble finding it, and eventually gave up.

Personally I'd love a larger print of the centerpiece from TGG (Sunny struggling with a huge jar of peanut butter), so I'm watching out for that to be sold anywhere. =) I agree that it would be great if Helquist had the rights to his own unreleased art. Remember, he is our last hope that the illustrations of the Baudelaires can finally be shown to the general public.

Wow, this is somewhat like seeing a small low-res snapshot of a part of the Holy Grail! Thanks for sharing the find, Pevalwen, and for contacting Mr. Helquist; it'd be awesome if he shared some of that unreleased artwork.
Michael Kupperman said that he could post his art because apparently the copyrights revert to the artist when said artwork is not released for a certain amount of years; hopefully this is true.

You can see the picture here on his website, too. He appears to be a bit of a hard man to contact, though.
