Yay! Glad to hear that Handler's still the screenwriter, too. And hopefully this will put an end to team #itsreal - they haven't even begun shooting.

Well, just because they haven't begun shooting bears no impact on that - I think the very first trailer for the movie was before they begun shooting that. But yay, a more solid date of when they begin shooting is helpful in terms of... stuff. But I wonder how long it will be till its released... january 2017 is a safe bet, is not later depending on how many episodes it is.

Thanks for finding that, bear.
I think it's actually quite interesting that Handler says it's himself that's working on the script. Because this is one of those sort of in-universe interviews where he's keeping up the pretence that Snicket is a real person, and it's interesting to know that Handler is working on the Netflix adaptation rather than Snicket.
Also, I laughed too much at this, especially the last sentence:

I don't know if you're right about that last part. I don't remember one and couldn't find one, but if you'd link me to such a teaser, I'd be much obliged. I guess in theory maybe you're right, but it's really stretching things when there is/was no cast and crew yet. But okay, knock yourselves out, Idc. Oh and I agree, a Jan-Feb 2017 release date seems reasonable to manage.

Summer/fall is maybe being overly optimistic; remember Netflix releases the entire season at once so it'll need to be all done, filming, editing and post-production. Most television shows began airing while they are still working on the season since it airs one episode at a time over a period of months. Jessica Jones started production in February and filming ended in August and the season is being released in November. And that's a superhero show. Depending on how many books they decide to handle in one season they could easily release it sometime in 2016. It's not like these books contain super CGI heavy elements constantly. Yes, summer isn't that likely, but fall to winter is really possible.

Well, spring starts March 20th (and is until June 21st), so if they start shooting in April and also take 7 months like with Jessica Jones, then the release would be February. I think a fall release would (pardon the pun) fall out of the question then. Either way, it's thrilling just to see the ASoUE title in Netflix's release schedule (under "Coming Up").

That's assuming that this series will be comparable in size to Jessica Jones, which I'm doubting as it's a Marvel show with lots of action and effects filmed on location in New York (Three factors which take significant time and resources). It wasn't a great comparison on my part, but the point still stands that if a rather large show can start filming at the beginning of the year and be released before the end a family show with less action and effects should be able to reach completion in less time. Truthfully I think the production time will be more similar to the period mystery show Miss Fischer's Murder Mysteries (Available on Netflix). It's a period show with a medium amount of effects and action. It takes four to six months depending on the season length (Eight to Thirteen so far at fifty minutes each). I think it has a comparable amount of action and effects needs to ASOUE (Though the first half of ASOUE definitely falls short in the action comparison between the two). Granted how long production takes probably doesn't matter as much as when they actually start filming. Spring seemed like a broad estimation rather than something set in stone. So who knows, they could start sooner or more likely later. I guess we'll see.

[/quote] It makes sense if you think about it in-universe wise; poor Mr. Snicket already had to research and write the series, it's cruel to make him relive that period of time for the screenplay. Handler though, knows enough about the author and events that it wouldn't be as upsetting to have him be involved. Snicket may provide feedback though, since they're fans of each other.

Has this been mentioned? "I was with Daniel Handler, one of my publicity clients, who is currently working on the Netflix adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events, and writing a part especially for Ali Liebegott, and his play The Story of the Ghost of the Dead Rabbit, which is having table readings at Berkeley Repertory Theater." lithub.com/song-and-dance-and-a-surprise-at-the-texas-book-festival-gala/

That's some weird syntax. Is Handler writing a part for Liebegott (who's a writer rather than an actor)? And whoa, Handler wrote a play? But what does the latter have to do with the ASoUE adaptation? ?=0

Thankfully, Ali Liebegott is female, which makes the passage easier to parse; if Liebegott was male, then Liebegott could be the play's author, while the person "writing the part" could be the article's author! Definitely a case of the sentence trying to do too many things at once. At any rate, the news is something I'd like to say is interesting, but... there's so little context that it's hard to know what we're really looking at.
...The sentence is so poorly-structured I feel the need to break it down: "I was with Daniel Handler, (one of my publicity clients,) who is currently working on the Netflix adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events, (and writing a part especially for Ali Liebegott,) and his play The Story of the Ghost of the Dead Rabbit, (which is having table readings at Berkeley Repertory Theater)."

So one wonders what part Liebegott (who is indeed a writer not an actor) will play.

While there's not a whole lot of new information out there right now, however I did find this article today: www.backstage.com/news/5-pieces-must-know-casting-news-56817/Here's the quotation from it: How accurate this information is, I couldn't tell you. If it's true we have a general idea where it's shooting now and who's behind the casting decisions. Again that's not very much information, but it's better than nothing.

Kress casting directed Mad Max Fury Road, so that's pretty good (as well as PotC 1, Moulin Rouge, MiB II). Also, Canada, huh? Vancouver sounds like a good location (by the sea, has mountains).
Oh, and it's great to see the March shooting date confirmed again. It's just 3 months away!
