At this point, I think either
a) the trailer is fake, and whoever is behind it is putting on one hell of a show or b) this is the best viral marketing stunt ever executed
don't forget that the series has major themes about adults lying, and never to trust what the reader says, and remember DH did all kinds of crazy stuff back in the day for promotion
obvs im team #itsreal, and dante can fight me irl if he so wishes

I lean toward a). Though there is precedent for crazy marketing salsa, one would think they'd pull it off in a less clumsy way.

If all of that information is correct, I'm tentatively swinging towards "real viral campaign" again, but if that's the case it makes me concerned about the honesty with which the likes of Netflix and Handler have approached things; if it was an, if you like, official unofficial campaign, I would have regarded it as honest to say nothing. At this point the ambiguity is more annoying than interesting. With that said, it is actually possible that Handler might not have been fully in the know, as we know for a fact that he wasn't involved in the preparation of some of the promotional efforts for ASoUE; for instance, he's openly stated that he didn't know in advance that HarperCollins were going to keep TPP's title and cover secret until release, they cooked the whole thing up on their own.
The in-between possibility on the teaser is that it's not actually indicative of production but was commissioned by Netflix to ramp up interest in advance of an announcement, which is the view I was taking before Handler stuck his oar in; Netflix is ultimately responsible but didn't directly produce it themselves, giving them plausible deniability because it was executed at arm's length. That's starting to look like the most likely option if all the information reported is correct, though I note that some of it is impossible to verify (e.g. the phone number that conveniently no longer works).
Also that in-progress Olaf looks like the world's creepiest glove puppet.

A poorly co-ordinated real viral marketing campaign?
I guess it is possible that DH isn't fully in the know, but I imagine netflix would have set him right by now.
And as for the phone number not working, ugh. I would have called that potato er. Now we may never know if it was actually a thing, though the recording of that person calling it seemed legit enough. But who knows, maybe they're in on it.

And have my hopes crushed again? No, thank you. #itsahoax
It would be funny and awesome if the people who made the teaser proceeded to create the whole series episode by episode labeling it as "Netflix's" and Netflix would be just so amazed that they'll be okay with it and DH will just owe many gimlets to the filmmakers

I don't believe its not not a fan-made trailer- its plausible that it came from a fan with knowledge of cinema/film. I just don't believe that netflix isnt involved in it.

You can deny your excitement all you like, Dante; for you this is basically christmas. Honestly? Not really. I mean, look at the facts: If it's fake then some fans went to a lot of trouble to gain attention and aggrandise themselves with lies, and if it's real then not only are Handler and Netflix lying for no reason but it's probably an arm's-length production that has nothing to do with Netflix's own work and so tells us nothing about the upcoming ASoUE production at all, so it exists purely to whip up hype for a project that doesn't have anything to show for itself. It's hard to look at that and think "get hype" when honestly the result is meaningless and the difference between real and fake doesn't matter.
