Personally I think there were still some great pieces from the later films, though. Lily's theme is hauntingly beautiful. Just dropping my too cents before we get too off-topic: I half-agree with you, though not for the same ones — I never found "Lily's Theme" to be anything so special, but I do think Doyle's Umbridge Theme and Voldemort Theme (though Williams's Voldemort Theme still gets my vote over the latter) were both spot-on. But yes, I echo the sentiment for the Netflix Series score. I love Count Olaf's Theme, which I have found myself humming now and then, and am grateful for its endless variations. Also, this may be a strange question, but what was that instrumental "epic" music in the first trailer, way back? The one with the "The Baudelaire children will be destroyed - What?" moment, if it helps any of you remember which one I'm talking about. From this trailer? I also love that track - it still constantly gets stuck in my head. (And ASOUE will forever be associated with it for me.) I also saw it used in a Fantastic Beasts TV spot around the same time. I never found the name or the composer, though now I feel like revisiting that mission...

I just went to Jim Dooley's website and saw that he's uploaded three tracks from his season 2 score. You can find them under the selected projects section of his website. jimdooley.comSunny's Mambo is the music that plays while Olaf and Esmé "dance" after throwing the Baudelaires down the elevator shaft. VFD Party is the swing music that plays during the opening minutes of the Carnivorous Carnival part one. Hector's Balloon is the track that plays when Hector takes off in the S.S.H.A.M.H. I'd LOVE for him to upload the score for the chase in the Library of Records in Hostile Hospital.

My school play today just used the music from Sunny’s mambo. I regret to inform you that your school has been compromised, infiltrated by the V.F.D. Be wary and diligent, my friend.

Ah yes I almost mentioned Umbridge's theme, too -- that's another great one. I'm sorry you're not so keen on Lily's Theme -- I think it's one of the most achingly sad and, at the same time, sublime pieces of music in the series. But back on message -- I do also agree that the music for this season was great (although I also really enjoyed the music in season one, which I know is not a very popular opinion), and Count Olaf's theme was inspired. I don't know what the music in that trailer was, although it's reminded me how much I love Doris Day's recording of Blue Skies, and how wonderfully it introduces that trailer. Also, I had forgotten just how much smaller Presley was in Season 1! And Klaus's voice was so much higher haha.

For the last couple of weeks, I've been experimenting with extracting as much of the score as I can from the episodes' 5.1 surround sound mixes. Here's a demo extraction I made of the music that plays during the Libray of Records chase sequence. (Please keep in mind that it's quite far from perfect, so there is a lot of reverb noise, sound effects and the occasional muted voice.)

That's incredible! Well done; I wouldn't even know where to begin doing something like this. It's really interesting to hear the music separated from the scene.

Also the girl playing Carmelita is more talented than any of the other child actors on the show, just sayin'. She is splendid, but I don't actually think she's more talented than the others. I love Malina Weissman's performance as Violet, in particular. The Quagmires were really good, and I think Louis Hynes has improved so much and really impressed me this season. And of course Presley Smith just lives the role of Sunny. Essentially I'm just really impressed by all the child actors. Nah she's definitely more talented. Granted her role provides her more opportunity to showcase it, but you are a fool if you think any of the child actors are better than her. Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes have definitely improved, and Malina Weissman is undeniably a good actress. The Quagmires are not, c'mon, they're pretty wooden. Sunny doesn't count she's a literal baby.

Something I've considered recently (an observation rather than a criticism) is that V.F.D. is significantly less mysterious in the show because of how much of it we see in action. Because its members don't move about in the shadows (whereas in the books we aren't always sure who is and who isn't a member) and because the viewer spectates its activity directly, I imagine viewers who haven't read the books aren't all that much intrigued by it as a mystery as those who have read them and were still left with questions and speculations when they finished reading.

Funny, I only just realized Dooley also did the score of the Epic Mickey games — I did think the style sounded familiar, but couldn't place it before. What a strange world we live in that a Mickey Mouse video game (if an usually dark one), a Lemony Snicket adaptation, and a film like Fifty Shades of Black, are all scored by the same person.

Hearing the music in isolation, it strikes me just how terrifying it is, especially considering it is for a children's television show. I have loved the music in this season.

Thank you very much Quisby !
If there are any tracks you (or indeed anyone else on the forum) would like to hear from season 2, please don't hesitate to ask.

I don't think she's less talented than the others, and I'm sorry if I accidentally implied that, but I certainly don't think she's more talented. I think it should also be noted that the Baudelaires and Quagmires have much more emotional depth to their roles than Carmelita has, so I think they have much harder parts to play. Also Sunny absolutely counts, Presley Smith is clearly a formidable actor. The climb up the elevator shaft was phenomenal work for a baby, and the way she embodied the role of Sunny-as-Chabo was awe-inspiring stuff. (In case it's still not clear: I was joking about Sunny.)
