I think it would be difficult to have Olaf die after Kit, and give that proper attention, without sacrificing his own one good act in helping her while she's in danger. And if he helps her and she then immediately dies before his eyes, his last noble act becomes meaningless. I think approaching the ending in terms of the order in which the deaths occurred isn't really the right perspective.

Factor this into your without-Widdershins speculation: Concept art posted in the production thread confirms that Phil returns. I would have thought he would've been an easy cut, with or without Widdershins, given that even the books forget about him after TGG. I'm honestly not sure what they'll do with him.

Dante, you made my day! I love Phil, and I was really hoping they would bring him back. I love his optimism! He might be my favorite non-main character.
And I would really think if they have Phil they will have the captain as well.

I'm fairly certain that his role will be much the same as in the original book; popping up for no real reason beyond the sheer comedic absurdity of such a minor character re-appearing after all this time. In fact, that might be why the show decided to remove Bruce entirely, as there would be no real need to have two characters so close to each other who provide such a similar narrative function. Although it seems quite likely that Phil will have at least a little bit more to do than his book counterpart. (Plus if it is just Phil and Fiona, they can still use "the crew of two".)

I was rereading a bit of TGG cause I was reading T.S. Eliot (lolol) and it struck me how much Sunny speaks in actual English in later books. I'm really excited for that, even though I have no idea how old Presley Smith is now. My personal favorite was when Violet says to Sunny that she'll have to fix the Queequeg's porthole herself so they can take off, and Sunny reminds her that that's not her specialty: "Cook. Cook and teeth."

If we take the November release date as a given (which it seems pretty safe to do) then Season 2's potential release dates are: November 2nd- Unlikely, as the last season of House of Cards is premiering on this date. November 9th- Potentially, as there are currently no other Netflix programs being released on this date. November 16th- Unlikely, as the first seasons of The Kominsky Method and the She-Ra reboot are premiering on this date. November 23rd- Potentially, as there are currently no other Netflix programs being released on this date and it's the same week as the Netflix versions of books 10-13 are set to be released. November 30th- Potentially, as there are currently no other Netflix programs being released on this date and it's exactly 8 months to the day that season 2 premiered. Since we now know that Season 3 is not being released this November but instead next year, I've drawn up a new list of potential release dates. I'm assuming that much like the first two seasons, it will be released during the first quarter of the year (start of January- end of March). This list is still highly provisional of course and subject to change with any new developments. January 4th- Potentially, as there are currently no other Netflix programs being released on this date. January 11th- Unlikely, as the second season of Friends From College is premiering on this date. January 18th- Unlikely, as Netflix is premiering their original movie Girl on this date. January 25th- Unlikely, as Netflix is premiering the final season of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on this date. February 1st- Potentially, as there are currently no other Netflix programs being released on this date. February 8th- Potentially, as there are currently no other Netflix programs being released on this date. February 15th- Unlikely, as the first season of the Umbrella Academy is premiering on this date. February 22nd- Potentially, as there are currently no other Netflix programs being released on this date. March 1st- Unlikely as Netflix is premiering the first season of Cannon Busters on this date. March 8th- Potentially, as there are currently no other Netflix programs being released on this date. March 15th- Potentially, as there are currently no other Netflix programs being released on this date. March 22nd- Potentially, as there are currently no other Netflix programs being released on this date. March 29th- Potentially, as there are currently no other Netflix programs being released on this date.

Honestly, I doubt season 3 will be released in January, or we probably would have gotten a trailer by now. The first friday-the-thirteenth in 2019 is September 13th, but they're obviously not going to wait that long to release it. Therefore, I believe that, just like in 2018, they'll release it on Passover, which, in 2019, will be April 19th.

I do like your thinking but that does seem a bit unlikely given that Netflix has A) never released the show outside of the first quarter of the year before, and B) after the first season, seems to have given up on the idea of themed release dates. The fact that Season 2 was released on the beginning of Passover seems to have been more of a lucky coincidence than an active decision as it was never brought up in any of the marketing. Plus, one of the members of the Unfortunate Associates podcast did mention on Reddit that Joe Tracz told him he thought Season 3 might be released in January. And it's also worth considering that lately, Netflix has really cut down on the marketing time their shows have. Many of their newest originals have simply had a full trailer released about three weeks before the show itself drops. In fact, the same thing also happened with Season 2, with only a couple of small teaser trailers before the "proper" trailer dropped, almost three weeks before March 30th. I don't want that to be the case with ASOUE, but I feel like we may need to consider it a possibility so we don't feel too disappointed if the marketing isn't at Season 1(or even 2)'s levels.

I wonder when Netflix's fiscal years begin and end. Well, hopefully it won't prove to be important.

Ah, that's very useful to know. That being the case, there's every chance their fiscal year this year ends around the same time, so it's unlikely a Season 3 release in the first few months of 2019 would place it in the same fiscal year as Season 2.
