if they finally got the opportunity to sort out the consitency of the vfd insignia, why put a standard eye on the cover 😭 Perhaps this is a placeholder as it does say that the cover is "coming soon." Because it is part of the logo itself though, who knows.

this Emily Gravett seems to draw cute fluffy animals, almost exclusively. After doing a bit more research, it seems that Gravett provided some illustrations for an edition of Quidditch Through the Ages in 2020. The illustrations there feel more in line with what we might see for the anniversary editions. I am also curious if by "collectors' editions", they just mean a new cover or if there are many illustrations (maybe some in color?) throughout. She is already committied to the first 6 books, which would be a large amount of illustrations to complete if she is doing as many as Helquist.

i. what is a scene or location you'd love to see illustrated in the new edition ? ii. is there a person in particular you think that the previous books (or series) you'd like to see shown differently to the previous books and screen adaptions? #lettucebikinirights The illustrations there feel more in line with what we might see for the anniversary editions. she uses lots of organic shapes and her characters are very "round", whereas the "pointy" style of helquist plays a lot more on perspective. what i appreciate with the more gothic style of drawing is the use of proportions to exaggerate how the world seems when you are a kid, and the extremity of one's surroundings, especially against "big bad" antagonists.
i think this is best illustrated through the sharp "pinstripe-like" lines and use of scale in the images below.
however, the depiction of sir is a good example of how gravett's style does have the opportunity to really shine through!

These are great questions. I'd love to hear other peoples' imput because, since the show exists, it's hard for me to think of a scene that immediately screams for another visual representation. There are some people that didn't get illustrated in the original book; Aunt Josephine comes to mind as do the Baudelaire parents. I would love to see an illustrated representation of the Daily Punctilio or the Snicket File ala her Snitch comic below

I’ve long thought about Count Olaf’s physical appearance (when he’s not in disguise) and what he really looks like. When depicting him in adaptations, his look seems to be directly inspired by Helquist’s illustrations. But what do we actually know about his hair style, for instance? I would love to see an interpretation that relies only on the text and not previous depictions of the character. Please correct me if I am completely wrong and there is an explicit passage about his hair that I’ve just forgotten.

I theorize this is because of two major points. First is that previous Snicket repackaged books don't sell too well, "Who Could That Be at This Hour?" being the most obvious one. Secondly, Mr. Handler doesn't seem too keen on ASOUE. I think he has moved past the series and doesn't want it to become what Harry Potter is. i don't know that i agree about him distancing himself from ASOUE. ATWQ has a huge amount geared towards former ASOUE readers, and he was heavily involved in the netflix show. i might even say he seems more comfortable now with the ASOUE "franchise" than he was during the height of the series. the sales problem does seem the likely answer, especially because Helquist's illustrations have a particular association with the series, being used in many international editions, etc. I agree with Bear. In fact I think Daniel Handler came to have a great deal of respect and perhaps admiration for Asoue and Lemony Snicket.

Is the logo on the placeholder cover final? And if so, is that eye meant to be a VFD insignia? It looks weird, but I can't quite make out the letters.

I doubt it's the final design. Probably just added it because eyes are associated greatly with the series, but it wasn’t really important to add the VFD eye.

how odd that they wouldn't release a boxset with all 13

Interesting that each listing notes that they are "illustrated by Brett Helquist" despite Gravett's involvement. I'm assuming this is an error.

how odd that they wouldn't release a boxset with all 13 I'm guessing this is a financial choice. A box set would obviously be purchased(probably mostly by hardcore fans), but buying all 13 books separately would be more expensive than a box set purchase. This way people can buy all 13 books if they want, or casual fans can choose just to buy a few. This way maximizes profits, I imagine. Interesting that each listing notes that they are "illustrated by Brett Helquist" despite Gravett's involvement. I'm assuming this is an error. I agree that it's probably an error.
