The henchmen being carried off by eagles could make it to the beach near the grotto. They're supposed to be heading to Hotel Denoument, and therefore will probably show up midway through the story. You have to consider all the factors involved. However, Esme could be the one to die.

Yeah, she could, so could the henchman, you really never know, and we really don't have evidence for who will die and who won't.

Alright, first and foremost, I would like to address the "someone might die" thing. no one bothered to think that the person who originally posted that on a different forum was probably full of snot. But anyways, if anyone dies, we can only guess. Here is what I think: I dotn think the hook-handed man will be the next to die, actually. Chances are, all of the characters in the large net being carried may not even show up in this next book. In fact, we may not make it to the last safe place in this one. This whole book could be just the adventure that everyone has to endure to get there. as for Esme dying, I dont think that will happen JUST yet. She is likely to last up until the last book, and she may not even die. I always thought she would turn against Count Olaf in teh last book because he insisted on doing something that wasnt "in" and she walks off the scene, quitting her villian days to do something more "in". My guess for the person who dies (if anyone).....I think it might actually be an important character that is really only important to this book or an earlier book, like Justice Strauss or Aunt Josephine, although I dont think Josephine is dead for several reasons.
Let's not forget that in TSS, the last remaining reptile that didnt belong to the evil VFDers was mentioned by one of the mysterious arsonist villians. That creature is likely to be the Incredibly Deadly Viper. Maybe the IDV is soon to return, perhaps in this book? ; )
Okay, now the message from a lost friend. Well, think about it. Duncan and Isadora Quagmire arent really lost, they are with Hector in the self sustaning hot air mobile home. Aunt Josephine wasnt lost, she was in peril and not so far from her own home (which fell off a cliff, mind you). Justice Strauss isn't lost because she has been at her hosue the whole time, Im sure, and if she hasnt been there, shes been organized somewhere else. The only truly lost person I can think of is Quigly, who was last heard of screaming and being carried down a rapid river away from the only true friends he ever really knew, the Baudelaires. I think he will succeed giving the Baudelaires a message, perhaps sending it by...oh I dont know....a carrier crow? He seems to know enough about the crows to be able to call them to help him, wouldnt one think?
Alright, now let me address those mushrooms and the little hypochondria problem. First off, the Baudelaires arent new to fungus. They had to deal with it at Prufrock Preparatory School. Maybe these mushroom are poisonous, but I dont think it has any connection with anyone dying. Although I think whoever came up with it being connected to a hypochondriac was on to something. I mean, it does make perfect sense. Someone (maybe even one of the Baudelaires, probably Violet if one of the three) might eat them and get worried. Here is why I think it will be Violet if this is the case (and this is only slight specualtion, remember this): The three kids havent eaten in a while, as you can tell, and Im sure after a while, anything but rocks, dirt, and peppermints looks like thanksgiving to them. And Im sure that theyre minds are probably starting to play tricks on them after all of tehse terrible events. Well, when they find the mushrooms, they decide (after Klaus gives his input of knowledge about them) to eat some because of their hunger. They all eat and later on, Violet begins to feel rather sick (probably because of all the water and cold and stuff) and speculates that the mushrooms are poisonous. Klaus insists they were safe because he read it in a book when he was younger or something, but Violet still feels sick and queezy. Therefore, she is afraid she is sick from the mushrooms and might die, making her a hypochondriac. Make sense?
Anyways, thats all my input. Cya later!

I think ONE of the henchmen will die in TGG. Maybe one of the freaks. MAYBE Esme. We will never know until it comes out. But that was some nice writing, I have to say

Well, with the current pattern of "let's have all the old henchmen either die or leave" I'm expecting to have something bad happen to Lucafont in GG. (Although you're right, at the end of SS he got shafted by being kidnapped by the very people he's working for. Smooth, Olaf. I hate you so much.) If he dies, then by God he should have a really awesome, violent death (better than Flacutono's and Dr. Orwell's, possibly!). MEANING: he had better not potato ing drown in the submarine. That'd be the worst death ever. At least Josephine was eaten by leeches in her watery demise.
If the new freaks die instead of Lucafont, though...man, that'd make my absolute day. X333
