An interesting break from the other characters, although, I am quite glad she won't be making a comeback for Book The Thirteenth.

Yes, but Fiona and Fernald stole the Carmelita from Olaf, probably to find their step-father, so theyre not evil, they just wanted to be together since they were family.

Fiona may not be evil, but don't forget pp.190-191 "...their closest friends were high in the sky , in a self-sustaining hot air mobile home, battling eagles and a terrible henchman who had hooks instead of hands..." Fernald is still "terrible" and he still is a "henchman" for someone. He no longer works for Olaf, but the fact that he and the eagles are fighting Duncan, Isadora, and Hector leads me to conclude that Fernald now works for the MWBANH and/or the WWHANB.

Okay, so I finally read through the whole of the thread. And I must say, I'm rather impressed with everyones views and theories on the book.
My favourite has to be that Olaf's parents starred in La Forza del Destino and were killed during the final scene (where everyone dies through one song).
I think that DEF on the tree are the Denouments and JKL are the Snickets. I think that the tree could perhaps be a listing of VFD triplets perhaps? Are the Quagmires on there, or the Quagmire parents? What about the Spats parents and the Winnipeg parents? Hmm.
I find it strange all the triplets, and twins. Perhaps everyone has a twin or triplets. Not sure though, it's just interesting. And I'm intruiged by the comment some one made earlier about Kit have triplets. I really like that idea.
And I cannot think of anything more I wanted to say. Oh, I agree with whoever said that Kit isn't on the cover. I also, don't believe it's her. For reasons that they stated.
And also, I don't believe that Lemony was the taxi driver. Although there is some evidence to perhaps support it. In TGG, it was discussed that VFD, formally, meant more than Volunteer Fire Department. But the fungus one too. I think the Taxi Co. is important. If Kit drove a taxi, then Lemony could have easily have driven a taxi. What about Jacques? Maybe he had a taxi. I think that there was definatly some scheme invented by VFD, involving taxis.
Finally, I really, really liked the idea of Book 13 marking the end for VFD. It's a brilliant suggestion, and I hope it's right. The idea of a once great, successful organisation turned into a battling, two fronted war, ending and becoming obselete strikes me as a perfect ending to the series.

Good point Rocksunner. I wonder if we'll see TMWABBNH and TWWHBNB again. I hope so.

I'm wondering if Kit's baby, or babies, will be born in B13, or sometime after the series has ended, or if she'll even live long enough for them to be born.
The Snickets aren't actually triplets--Jacques and Kit are twins, Lemony being somewhat younger. That may account for the structure of their branch, if the tree is actually a chart of triplets.

Fernald is still "terrible" and he still is a "henchman" for someone. He no longer works for Olaf, but the fact that he and the eagles are fighting Duncan, Isadora, and Hector leads me to conclude that Fernald now works for the MWBANH and/or the WWHANB. For the sake of discussion: Fernald could be being described as a henchman simply because that's how he's been described for so long. And there are many more villains in the world than Olaf and the judges with the hair - Fernald could be working for some terrible person we haven't yet met, such as an impostor J.S. I don't think Kit's baby or babies will be born before the end of the series. Or at least, I don't think we should see them. Or at least... Bah, I just don't like it.

Perhaps they meet Lemony *I like that Idea* and Kit has her baby/babies, but maybe she dies during the process? That does happen, you know.
Or maybe Kit takes them in?

Good book. Good good book. Do you think that there is possibility that the Hotel is in France or another French country. The words "flaneur" and "concierge" are both from French desent, and in both definitions of the words, they use French slang, or say "A French person who...".
This is random, but while looking at definitions of these words I noticed the "flaneur" happens to be a anagram of "funeral". Spooky.

That's an interesting anagram, and I think the French thing is just a coincidence. Many of the characters, including the Baudelaires, do have French names, but that doesn't prove the series takes place in France.
I think we might not even see Kit in B13, but we might hear news of her. And maybe if part of book 13 takes place years later, her children will figure into it.

I've decided that I think we may see Kit, actually (although no babies, please) - firstly, it seems fitting that the other Snicket sibling apart from Lemony returns, somehow. I think I regard her as being rather like Widdeshins and Phil and Hector and the Quagmires, now - a helpful figure who had to depart for mysterious reasons. And secondly, she implied that she'd be on the SSHAMH with Hector and the Quagmires after resolving the situation in the sea.
Edit: This evidence doesn't sound nearly as good written down as it did in my head.
