It's Olaf.

Ok, we agree it's Olaf. If he's not dead or injured in this picture, what would be the point of it? I can't agree he's just lounging around in the water in pinstriped pants, with one shoe off.
Here's another possibility -- the Baudelaires have just killed him. I believe they could, especially if he were drunk, already injured by a storm, or off guard. Could Violet have hit him with that cage-like thing?

I'd guess that they're all crawling from the wreckage of their ship after an unpleasant storm, which Olaf's come off considerably the worse from - most likely due to his own reckless disregard for safety precautions. There's a lot of assumption that he's dead, but that seems to me just too easy. The Baudelaires don't look, by their facial expressions, like they've just killed someone, with the possible exception of Sunny - Klaus just looks disgruntled, whereas Violet looks like she has other things on her mind. I'll concede that they may well be deliberately looking away, though. Another possibility, and one that I quite like, is that they think he's dead, but will later be proven wrong.

For easy referral: I adore the way the Bauds look in this picture. Klaus in particular. Also, the border appears to most certainly be some sort of fruit. The original sin idea would be neat. Just thought we should have the pic on the page I do like that theory dante.

Yeah, maybe the Bauds think that Olaf is dead (like Dante earlier said) and they run off into the island, explore, possibly meat up with the Quags and/or FFP and they become friends until the MWBBNH and WWHBNB come along and they trap them and Olaf repents after possibly meeting up with Lemony or someone or possibly from his own will and he saves the Bauds. That's my theory. If true, I have witnesses. Or possibly the FFP is a disguise of the MWBBNH and WWBBNH and they attacked the boat (the FFP might not be a disguise at all, just a thought) and they killed or KO'd Olaf and left them for dead. OR maybe the MWBBNH and WWHBNB came and killed Olaf for abandoning him OR maybe (this is good) Fernald and Fiona come up in the Carmelitta and attack Olaf but leave the Bauds, thusly Klaus's expression. OR maybe Kit and Widdershins and Quigley and Duncan and Isadora and Hector and Fiona and Fernald come up and kill/KO Olaf. OR Kit and Widdershins just come and kill/KO him. Or The Quags and Hector, or Fiona and Fernald come and rescue them.

Maybe the boat crashed. Possibly from lack of concentration, and Olaf could be unconscious from impact.

I can't believe I only just found this thread. Seriously, wow. It's a very pretty cover.
I doubt that Olaf will die in the series at all, so I'll go along with the theory that it is him and he's just unconscious. Also, 'The End' is very Lemony-esque, but I don't think that they would give us the cover and the title so soon before it's release.

Somebody commented that the Final Books Cover does not show finality. I couldn't agree more.

Yeah, I know. And is that a cage I see behind Violet? What's that about?

The IDV? Probably too big... or maybe it has Sunny's evil twin in it, like what Olaf did earlier

The cage made me think of Sunny, although she's probably rather big for it now. I don't know why Olaf, or anyone, would have been carting that around, though. And it looks more like a birdcage than a reptile cage. It might just be random debris, or it could hint that the crows are, once again, going to play a part. Or small-ish birds of some sort, I doubt it would be the eagles. The final picture of TPP did indicate that birds would once again be appearing, although until we've read the last book then TPP's final picture remains a matter of contention.

Possibly. I think the eagles will appear, and maybe Olaf had one hostage?

It kind of looks to me like sunny's cage, as was said earlier. That makes me think they went back to Olaf's house, maybe it got whashed away?
