EDIT: "THE END" title looks like it's pasted over the real title to me. But you have to look at the texture really closely to see it. I agree, if you put it into paint and zoom in on it you can see a major differnce between the texture below the letters and the texture of the rest of the cover. Could it be another mystery for us to solve? Really? *goes and checks it out* OMG!!! no I won't be able to sleep

There is a different texture around the letters of "The End" but it appears to be limited to the direct region of those letters-- which wouldn't be the case if there were something genuinely pasted over the real title. The texture is just a result of image compression; that sort of thing always happens if you upload a JPG, you get those blocky pixellated patterns around the edges of things. And if sections of the cover look like they were pasted on unevenly, that's just because of the usual woven-looking texture. Here's a zoomed-in image of the title. Note how the blocky texture is concentrated directly around the title, but also scattered at random in the surrounding weave.

It also might be olaf because the feet have no socks on them. That is Olaf's idiosyncrasy. Although in TPP, when Olaf appeared, he was specifically described as wearing socks, although they had a hole in the ankle (likely through age rather than deliberate action) making the tattoo visible.

Hahaha, what we're all forgetting is Olaf could EASILY take his socks off. Or, the Baudelaires could to see if it's him, you know, his head has been chopped off or something, and they wanted to check? I dunno

I don't think Olaf is going to get his head chopped off

Olaf is apparently alive at the time the books are being written, so I don't think he'll die (although that depends on what you think the timeline is, and it's all so vague that we can't really say anything for sure.) I'd be disappointed if he did die. It just seems too... simple? Obvious? I don't know. Although I'm morbidly amused by the idea that he's decapitated in that picture.

I didn't say I thought his head would be chopped off, just a reason the Baudelaires might not know who he is.
I think you are right Phoebonica, because I remember Handler saying that in previous books (TRR or TCC or TSS? Something like that)

For some reason I find myself laughing at the thought of Olaf getting his head chopped off. But no, I definitely think that's olaf(I was taken aback by him wearing socks in tpp) and I think he's alive in the picture. Well of course they'd know it's him, tattoo, body, etc... Even without his head I think they'd still recognize his tall, lean, unhygenic figure with the tattoo.

I think that Olaf will survive book 13, but will be somewhere where he cannot pursue the Baudelaire's any longer.

I agree that the pursuit needs to stop at some point. Though I'd rather enjoy it if Olaf died after all the things he's done.

On looking back at the cover I noticed that the ankle (on the foot with the shoe) is a really odd very light greeny colour (for want of a better description) which made me think maybe it was really a sock!!!

No. It just looks green because of the water. He's not wearing a sock. Wow Klaus looks as if he was in a madhouse for like 5 years. o.o

They all look a bit odd. I bet we don't get any sort of explanation on what happens to Olaf's socks. *pouts*

I DREW OVER SOME STUFF IN BLACK IN PHOTOSHOP AND IT LOOKS A BIT DIFFERENT AND SOME-WHAT BETTER. YOU CAN KINDA MAKE OUT SOME STUFF ABOUT IT! Edit: Also you can see cages. this might mean that the snakes taken from Uncle Monty's house could return!
