Knowing our luck, Poe isn't dead.

But he will die eventually by a harpoon. Because in Pg 233 in TPP it says "It was not his destiny to be slain by a harpoon, at least no on this particular evening."

That doesn't actually mean that he will die by harpoon. It just leaves open the possibility that, of the many ways he could die, harpoon is one of them.
Edit: As to whether or not he'll return - my personal opinion is that he won't, but some of TPP's references to Mr. Poe were highly ambiguous. If he does return, then he probably will die by harpoon (which fulfills the harpoon sentence and means that the children will not be taken away from him again, as it said in the final chapter), but if he doesn't return, then anything could happen to him, including dying in the fire at Hotel Denouement (which seems most likely, given his behaviour when the Baudelaires spoke to him from the elevator).
However, Mr. Poe is not the topic of this thread, it's the Baudelaires, or more specifically, their possible deaths.

Sorry, Dante, but I feel that I need to note one more thing on your Mr. Poe theory:
I think that somewhere in chapter 13, when they are talking to Mr. Poe from the elevator, didn't it say that they never saw him again? or was that esme and Carmelita?

It said that the Baudelaires would never be taken from Mr. Poe again. If he dies when he next meets them, then indeed they never would be taken from him again. Unless you count his corpse, I guess. Or unless the Baudelaires die. I really don't care, since I don't think he'll be coming back.
Edit: And it said that the Baudelaires would never argue with Esmé or Carmelita again, which is similarly ambiguous.

The line "The Baudelaires never argued with either unpleasant female again" could imply that Esme and Carmelita will survive, and return, but will be unwilling to argue with the Baudelaires. I doubt that they'll actually be helpful, but the terrifying experience of the fire could have made them more cowardly.

I'm not sure that any of the Baudelaires will die, as someone said it would mean two seem more important than the one that died. All through the series Snicket/Handler has taken pains to make them all equally as important in foiling Olaf's plans etc. Violet with her Inventing, Klaus with his Research, and Sunny with her teeth and Culinary skills. They are a team...all for one and one for all!!!!

Thank you. I don't think that he'll kill one of the kids; I heard this rumor from a friend of mine, who probably heard it somewhere else. If anyone has any viable evidence that Handler has said in an interview that points to the death of a Baudelaire child, please post the link. Although I doubt that there's any information on that out there....

First off I want to apologize in case this has already been pointed out! Second I want to thank Unluckyfire101 for giving me the idea!
Unlucyfire101's Avatar says "Remember you will die -Prufrock Preparatory School motto" (or something like that) So I checked the book and here's what I found:
1. Klaus is the first one to see the motto 2. Klaus is the one to translate it But 3. if I remember correctly(correct me if I'm wrong!)Sunny is the one to bring it back up.

I really hope that Klaus will not die. He's my favorite character. But really maybe (for some reason) just 2 of the Baudelaires might die. of course if 1 should die (quoting lauren) it would show that one character is significanlty more important that the other. WHAT CONSPIRACY AGAINST VIOLET? Yea, I get it that she promised to her parents that she would protect Klaus and Sunny, but maybe for some reason she fails. Sunny is only a young tot, it would just be cruel kill her at such a young age (then again it's cruel to kill any person). Klaus holds vital information in that vast container inside his head he calls a mind. ALL Baudelaire skills are important for their survival, so really I think this is a rumour that we may not know becomes true because the series is not complete. The 13th book comes and all Baudelaires survive (I mean the kids not the parents) then I'll be free to dream up a way that every character dies.

I hope none of them perish, and I certainly hope it isn't Violet.

I don't think it would be a very good ending if any of the Baudelaire's died. I mean they've been through so much... But whatever the ending is, I'll probably appreciate it anyways.

I have a question about the rumor, did you hear that one of the Bauds would die, or one of the important characters would die?

Thats true. I mean without the facts you can't assume that one of the bauds will die. It could be anyone.
