If Kit didn't say directly in TPP, it was certainly very strongly implied that Dewey was the father. I think she did say, but I don't have my copy of TPP here.

That idea was discussed here, if you're interested.

Thanks, Dante. But yeah, the idea of Olaf being the father struck me too, although I'd really like to believe that it was Dewey's.

I think it's Dewey's.

I was looking on wikipedia about this, Archduke and such. It says that Archduke and Count are Related words, and different systems.
And the final piece:
Thus
Count
v
Archcount(No really difference to count)
v
Archduke
(Note: I know the topic's a little old, it's albeit interesting for those who havn't found it out.)

Very interesting...*muses*
That would make sense...Kit wanted to run away with a duke, am I correct? (or has my memory failed me...?)

my friend has a theory that he kissed her because he is actually Lemony Snicket, her brother. supposedly that's why he is always on the run... she also thinks that he is the blad man in the theatre troope. this particular character gives Violet the creeps, and told her to stay on Olaf's good side (during the production of the Marvelous Marrige).
I'm not sure that it was necessarily a romantic affection, but more of a brother sister affection?
just not sure....

Interesting theory! Seriously, that would be amazingly cool if Lemony had been near the Baudelaires the whole time. It would explain why he had such detailed accounts about them, but it is, probably, unlikely, but a cool thought, nonetheless.

but why on earth would anyone possibly want to run off with Olaf?
After my brother and I finished the series, he was CERTAIN that the Kit/Olaf kissing thing meant that Olaf was the father of Kit's kid. I said, "But Olaf was too busy chasing after the Baudelaires! He wouldn't have spare time to go hunt down Kit too!"
Interesting theory. . .but I always thought the hook-handed man (Fernald) seemed more attracted to Violet. He always said she was "a pretty one."

I think. In past Count Olaf was one of the happiest and loveliest man in the world. But probably so many poeple announcement hes action wrong and cuel, that Olaf disguises his good side under mask of evil and greedy man. In time, he probably assured hes self that the new Olaf is much better then old. And so, noone realy remember Old Olaf now.
Except Kit.

Count Olaf's Latest Girlfriend was Esme. It seems as if Kit and Olaf were together a long time ago, which is why Olaf promised to kiss Kit one last time. Kit was recently interested in Dewy, so it has to be Dewey, not Olaf

my friend has a theory that he kissed her because he is actually Lemony Snicket, her brother. 'Cept, Olaf is dead and Lemony isn't Also, I'm pretty sure that Kit was talking about her baby potentially being an orphan after she learned of Dewey's death but before she knew that Olaf was in a fatal situation, so it's pretty likely that it's Dewey's.

The general school of thought is that Olaf and Kit's relationship was a long time ago, and Dewey is the father of Kit's baby; while of course nobody knew about Olaf and Kit ever having been in a relationship at the time, TPP heavily implied Dewey and Kit were. The vagueness of everyone's words and the general ambiguity of the series leaves this open to interpretation, though, if you so wish.
