I had covid in July 2022. It was during a heat wave, I hate being ill in hot weather. I was vaccinated and it was just an average cold/fake flu virus with a sore throat, runny nose and a bit of a fever. I started feeling ill on a Thursday and didn't take the Friday off sick and worked from home, I can't remember why, but I remember thinking I should have just taken it off. I did have a weaker sense of smell and taste for a few days, which was annoying because it made me keep wanting food because even if I had eaten enough for my body my brain wasn't satisfied.

I was away and didn't really look at a computer and now I'm sad I missed the purple. But I think this looks good, I like that the pinstripes got some texture.
Just the like counts give me cringe vibes because they remind me of the old Karma.

Names

I have always been interested in names. The idea that when a baby is born you give them a name just fascinated me. My parents had a name book (which someone probably gave to them before me and/or my siblings were born), and I found that when I was just able to read. I loved reading the names I didn't know yet, learning about the origins of different names and highlighting the names I liked. I also had some "statistics" (based on all the people I knew or knew about) about which names tend to occur in the same families. Before I realised I was a terrible writer my favourite part of writing was naming characters. Choosing names was also my favourite bit of pretend play or playing with dolls/toys. I always had a favourite name (and several backups) which changed frequently. I didn't really know or care if a name says anything about the person. Some names roughly tell you a person's age/generation, but of course there are exceptions to this, some names are more timeless than others and some disappear and then appear again a few generations later. For example in Germany a woman called Sabine is most likely about my parents' age, someone called Hannah could be any age. Emma used to be a really old great-grandma name, but then got really popular again in the last 10-15 years. Male names tend to be more timeless than female ones. If a name can tell you anything else about a person, it's probably because parents who choose similar names also have similar parenting styles. I had a phase where I didn't like my own name, when I was about 10. I don't think there was a reason for it, maybe I thought it was a bit childish because it's from a children's book. My name is actually mispronounced most of the time, or at least pronounced differently to how my parents pronounce it, I even do it myself now. So maybe it's my parents who have been mispronouncing it the whole time? They pronounce it with a short "ditt" (like in "ditto"), and most people pronounce it with a long "deet". I prefer the short ditt, but when I pronounce it like that I almost swallow the whole i and the d blends into the t and nobody understands what I'm saying. Also it would be awkward if I now told people that it's pronounced like Maditta and not Madeeta when that's what they have been calling me the whole time. Now I'm a bit sad about that The idea of changing one's own name seems weird to me, probably because I grew up in a country where you can't just do that. If/when I have children/a child, I would like to choose names which give them flexibility to choose their own nicknames, I wouldn't give them names which are already shortened. I also like the idea of using old fashioned German names which I probably wouldn't choose if I was still living in a German speaking country. I can think of a few girls' names which I like enough to give to my own child, but I'm really struggling to think of any boys' names. Of course that means that I will probably only ever have sons just for that reason, and never being able to pick a girl's name is genuinely the main (possibly the only) reason I would be disappointed about that.

Oooh that looks nice! The roll looks so fluffy, I want one of those. I have been considering making my own burger patty when I get to that point but I never thought about making the roll. Also those chips look so nice and crispy.

I had porridge for breakfast today. The raspberries are mostly hidden inside. I used frozen raspberries instead of fresh ones because it's February, so the fresh ones you can get are of questionable quality. I mostly have porridge in the office now using the microwave (and the free oat milk provided by work haha), so I haven't had any cooked on the stove for a while. I like both. 11/13 So I'm done with the Bad Beginning recipes. I might do a summary at some point but not right now. I will be away for a bit and the plan is to continue with the coconut cake on the weekend of the 9th/10th of March, but there is a chance of a raw carrot appearing before that.

I even thought of one that's remotely related to my current profile picture!

Here is some chocolate pudding When I first moved to the UK I used to import packets of chocolate (and vanilla) pudding mix. Until I realised that they had exactly two ingredients, corn starch and cocoa powder. So now I make my own pudding occasionally, using those ingredients, a bit of sugar and normally oat milk, and I come up with different flavours too. 9/13, it was nice and creamy and was but I put nowhere near enough cocoa powder in.

There was pancake day in the office on Tuesday and there is leftover biscoff spread, so I just had a biscoffee:
put 1 teaspoon of biscoff spread in a mug add some oat milk put in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir, then put in for another 30 seconds fill the rest of the mug with coffee
This one was caffeine free because someone put the "wrong" beans in the coffee machine. All the addicts are annoyed but I am happy because I like the taste of coffee but not the effects of caffeine.

Are they chewey ones or hard ones? I prefer chewey ones but I think hard ones are the default so that's probably what I end up getting for this purpose.

I had burnt toast for lunch today The crust was already quite burnt when the rest of the bread wasn't quite what I would consider burnt yet, it would probably have worked better with shop bought bread. I liked having burnt toast on purpose, it felt like being allowed to do something that is normally forbidden. I spread pesto on it and also added some vegetables and cheese on the side because balanced meal and stuff. 10/13, I like dark toast. This evening we made pancakes. The flat ones, not American ones. I prefer having American ones when eating out and flat ones at home, because they are nicer to eat individually and put different toppings on each one, especially when you make them really thin and quite small so you can have more different ones. This is one of the ones I ate, with nutella and banana on. These are the leftover ones. 12/13. The only reason why I'm not giving 13 is that I ate 5 of them (small ones but still, FIVE) and I feel super fat now.

I made spaghetti puttanesca for dinner yesterday. I love every single thing about puttanesca sauce and I'm a fan of pasta in general, so this gets a 13/13 from me.

It's mostly a commercial thing here and I feel a bit like people laugh at the people who actually do special dates or something big on valentines day.
We used to get each other cards but stopped after the year we both got the exact same one because we know we won't be able to top that. This year we got some heart shaped chocolates to share. I like any excuse for chocolate.
Last year there were donuts at work but I doubt we'll get anything this year because there will be pancakes the day before.
Linda definitely had a cupid account at some point but I think other people have done it too.

I didn't, I was going to do that when I got home but I found them in the charity shop before that.
