Discuss mistakes in the books, or misprints in your copy. I've started this thread so that we can have a single, general thread for all mistakes or misprints, rather than having several highly-specific threads scattered about the forum.
I'll start: In TSS, then "the world is quiet here" is described as being four words long.

Okay, I'll post my mistake here. In TCC, on my Ex Libris page, the Baudelaires are on the bottom where Olaf is supposed to be. I'm not sure this is a mistake though, because around the time the book came out (2002), I saw a pile of them in the bookstore, and they were all like that. But I think they fixed it when TSS came out.  Edit: Sorry if I'm bothering you, Dante.  |

In TMM, there's the line "Foreman Flacutono said the doctor". And in the introduction to the LSUA, "Autobiography" is misspelled.
I don't seem to have any copies of the books with weird misprints, though. However, when I first saw the "deja vu" joke at the beginning of Chapter 5 in TCC, I thought it was a misbinding.

Handler probably wasn't sure if the bottom picture was always Count Olaf, and the top picture was always the Baudelaires. He was probably thinking "Baudelaires on top, whoever is disguised on the bottom." Then he changed it to the Count Olaf-bottom, Baudelaire-top for the rest of the series. |

There was a science mistake in the Slippery Slope- listen: "Of course, all nights are dark days due to the fact that the earth travels around the sun..." That's sort of paraphrasing it, but night and day occur because the earth spins on its axis, not because it revolves around the sun.
Also, in the Hostile Hospital, Snicket writes that the two younger Baudelaires preferred to focus on Violet's skills as an inventor- or something like that- instead of her physical apperance.
There are a lot of mistakes in the books, aren't there?

There are typos in every book (well, lots and lots, certainly). While I can understand that it's easy to get paranoid with this series, and think that everything's a clue, you won't really get anywhere. Do you reall think Snicket's going to say, in the last book, "and if you re-read the last twelve books and write down every single typo, you'll find out what happened to Beatrice"?
(This isn't just directed against you, Lemminz. This is a word of caution to everyone inclined to be paranoid about the series. I just believe that there are some lines of thought where you're just not going to get anywhere, and those should be avoided.)

In TSS 'Sugar Bowl' is said to be a single word.
As for le typos I don't think any of them mean anything, but I do think it is peculiar that none of the editors seemed to pick them up before printing.

In TSS 'Sugar Bowl' is said to be a single word. That reminds me. In the U.A., some of the Sebald code doesn't work because "sugar bowl" is spelt as one word. We discussed it once, and came to the conclusion that an over-zealous editor changed it, not realising the implications. |

in my Bad Beginning on the ex libris page it has a picture of stephano. And coincidetally enough in my Reptile Room it has a picture of Count Olaf as himself

I just remembered: I'm pretty sure I found a library copy of TWW someplace that had a picture of Olaf as Gunther on the front endpaper, although the rest of the book was okay.
